Seeking recommendations for a Marriage Celebrant in the ACT

My partner and I plan to get married at the beginning of next year and are looking for a celebrant.

Looking online there are a vast number of possibilities – but how do we know any are good?

We don’t have any specific religious persuasions but don’t really want to end up with any crazy new-age stuff either.

We plan to go do the “wedding fair” thing and see if we can meet a few, but are wondering if any Rioters can recommend anyone who they have used recently (i.e. in the last year or so)?

I noticed a previous post http://the-riotact.com/marriage-celebrants-in-canberra-recommendations/14940 and wanted to see if anyone has any more recent experience with one.

Grateful for any assistance anyone can provide 🙂

Take a look at our article on The Best Wedding & Marriage Celebrants in Canberra for a helpful guide to all of your options!

Hi Rioters – An oldie but a goodie thread and still a relevant question for 2017/2018.
First of all, a big congrats on deciding to get hitched! And secondly, I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring here as a modern, fun, young(ish) Canberra-based celebrant. I’m all about creating wedding ceremonies that are authentic, memorable and a real celebration of the two of you – your relationship, your love, your sense of commitment and totally your style. You can have a stalky stalk and get in touch via my website (www.shannonoheir.com.au), Instagram (@shannonoheir_celebrant) or on Facebook (@shannonoheir.celebrant). Happy celebrant hunting!

Another vote for Lorraine Bird. She really was fantastic throughout the whole planning stage and we received lots of complements on the ceremony from friends and family. We had been to lots of weddings in Canberra with lots of different celebrants but choose Lorraine after seeing her do a fantastic job at a cousin’s wedding. Strongly recommended.

No hesitation in recommending Roger Thomson (link below).

He facilitated both our wedding (2 years ago) and that of my partner’s mother (5 years ago), and has a really relaxing, gentle and most importantly competent civil celebrant. Would highly recommend him as a civil celebrant for anyone.

+1 for Roger.

He was the celebrant at our wedding in 05 . He was also the celebrant at my parents wedding in 77!

Hi Miss Gen

My congratulations to you and your fiance on your happy plan.

My name is Michele Bolitho.

I write a regular blog about the wedding scene in Canberra and surrounds, and getting married in general. There are lots of ideas for venues (including many free ones), reception places, caterers, photographers and so on. I don’t have any commercial arrangements with any of these providers, I just like their work.

Five civil celebrants have chosen me as celebrant for their own weddings and I think that’s a great testimonial.

I wish you both all the best for your big day

Jan Phillips is excellent. She will go the extra mile for you and is very thorough in her preparations.
0412 411 424. You can also Google her. She also does naming ceremonies, funerals and any other kind of celebration.

Thanks very much to all – will have to start making some calls!
Cheers 🙂

+1 lorraine bird

We used Stefanie Morosi Ditchburn (http://www.dayofchoice.com.au/) last February and she was lovely! S he was great fun and her German accent made it different! 🙂

Gina Callan! She was wonderful. We chose her because of how relaxed, friendly and accommodating she was, while still being very professional.

We used Jenny Grierson, lovely lady 🙂 She even dressed up in tartan for our Scottish themed wedding

We used Margaret Mitchell a couple of years ago and she was excellent.

We used Lorraine Bird, she was fantastic. She was completely flexible and able to roll with the punches including last minute location changes forced by rain and a last minute change to the ceremony after my brother secretly flew back from London after we had worked a video call to him into the ceremony.

I’m using Mary-Ann O’Sullivan next month… the 18th

I cannot recommend her enough!

She has been a true pleasure to work with.

Lots of ideas… very patient with me, and my worries… She always has a pot of coffee brewed when we go to visit her.. She is just a lovely lovely lady.

Her contact number is (02) 6262 2334

I’ll give Judy Aulich a big rap – google her name. She’s warm bubbly and profesional. Roger Tompson is also good but has been known to cram weddings into a Saturday afternoon and consequently can arrive late if a previous Bride runs a little behind time.

Brett Galt-Smith is a lovely bloke (disclaimer – and a friend of mine). I have no doubt he’d do a wonderful job.

Ditto Narelle Tudehope. She has a wonderful down to earth way about her.

My Wife and I got married at the National Botanic Gardens on the 5th of November 2011,
Narelle Tudehope(Civil Celebrant) took care of everything for us, she had some great ideas for how to customise/personalise the ceremony and guided us through it all.
She made it all so easy, which at that time was a must, our brains were dead after all the planning and the excitement on the day.
Very happy to reccomend Narelle.
