I am seeking the services of an individual to put together a 5-10 watt valve guitar amplifier head for me.

You would obviously need to have knowledge of electronics, soldering and if possible guitar amplifiers.

Looking for anyone ranging from professionals to backyard tinkerers for the job.

Leave a comment or email me at pjmcvondaly@gmail.com and see if we can work something out.

Hi there,

You need to talk with Derek Lark.
http://www.dereklark.com/Default.aspx?tabid=218

Canberra based, and knows a lot about fixing and repairing vintage and modern tube amps.

Met him at the Statesman hotel in Curtin a few months ago when they were having a vintage amp and guitar show.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a kit you want put together, or a schematic, or just an idea?

I contacted him, and apparently he is “booked with contracts which will keep me busy until August 2010.”

I can wait but not that long.

Also thank you for the very helpful emails people.

I’m looking for someone who can repair Sherwood speaker cones. You know that bit that attaches the cone to the speaker frame.

Pat Turner at Turner Audio builds and repairs hi-fi valve gear, and has done work on my own vintage guitar amp. He enjoys a chat, is passionate about this stuff and does great work. Not sure if he’d be prepared to build a guitar amp specifically, but worth contacting to find out.

And be wary of backyard tinkerers – there’s more to building a decent amp than soldering skills. Not to mention stored voltages in guitar amplifiers have the potential to KILL (specifically thinking the filter capacitors here.)

Good luck, let us know how you go.

have you asked the lads at Pro Audio Fyshwick or Better Music for some advice as to who could do it – I’m pretty sure there’d be some capability in house at both stores.
