Federal Senator Kate Lundy has added her support to fixing Gungahlin’s Broadband performance issues and will represent the issue to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Yesterday Senator Kate Lundy published a media release and video of an interview she had with me concerning Broadband performance issues in Gungahlin. It is with this video and information on my website, http://www.actbroadband.net which I will use in a submission to request priority roll-out of the NBN in Gungahlin.

There are 75 pair gain systems deployed in the Gungahlin area which is one of the largest RIM/CMUX deployments in the country. These pair gain technologies are limiting residents ability to access broadband as port availability on these devices is significantly less than the number of residents connected to them for voice services.

Many of the RIM/CMUX deployed in the area can not cope with the current subscriber levels which results in numerous residents reporting ADSL performance at or below Dial-up speeds for many hours each day. Many of the ISP’s have tickets raised against the wholesale provider (Telstra Wholesale) for which no rectification has been planned for over 12 months. For all but Harrison and Forde there is no alternative ADSL provider, all the ISP’s are forced to resell Telstra Wholesale capacity.

The Wholesale provider is still selling ADSL services in the area even after admitting a wide scale congestion fault with their own service. Telstra have made announcements about RIM to Fibre upgrades in other areas of the country but continue to ignore Gungahlin which is estimated to have up to 10 time more residences across 7 suburbs.

With TransACT only putting FTTH in green fields estates and Telstra Wholesale continuing to do very little to provide an adequate service, existing suburbs will suffer until something changes. Maybe the NBN will bring relief to my community, and if the government is acknowledging the problems here we might start to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I will continue to work on getting Gungahlin residents the same level of service as other areas of Canberra, we pay the same money (sometimes more) and should get the same level of service.

If you are in Gungahlin and are having poor broadband performance, contact me via the website.

Funny how, way back at teh start of Gunghalin, I built a house in Gunghalin. Sure, nothing funny about that. But, I did so cause I was a young geek type, I had been told it was going to be the information superhighway (as they called it then, remember that?)

So, here we are like fifteen or so years later and still we are trying to get broadband to them. Crazy stuff.

One thing to note, Kate Lundy was in there and fighting back then and has been ever since. She must feel like she is hitting her head on a wall with this stuff

Mr PC should move to Burnie Tasmania, the very first site that was part of the National Broadband Initiative. There’s some real due diligence.

The internet access in Gungahlin has been a disgrace since day one especially since all that fibre to the node was laid out from Palmerston, the first suburb. Telstra just refuses to use it because of an agreement with a certain pay-tv company to not compete with their satellite service. Kate Lundy has been mouthing about this for years but as usual cannot deliver. The only one being more ineffective is Bob McMullen so we will see what the next toady can deliver won’t we?

The latest treat is the digital television service. Hello! Has anyone realised that much of Gunners is in a shadow from Black Mountain and can’t receive a digital signal? I know I should be out there getting a life but what is the point of at last getting access to an array of services if you can’t receive them. It’s no wonder that Gungahlin has the lowest vote for Labor across the ACT. Just a cash cow for land sales. No roads. No internet and now no TV.

What an exciting life you must lead, when broadband accessibility is so high on your selection of residence.

Moving to the areas you speak of may resolve broadband issues but create life ones, but you have to have one to appreciate that

Way to take it out of context. For some people having fast internet access at home is a necessity, for work or otherwise. Looking for a residence with broadband availability is no different to looking for a residence near public transport, local shops, schools, etc… depending on what your priorities in life are. Way to stereotype ppl priotising wanting fast internet access as “living a dull life” by your insinuation though, personally I take offence, but then again luddites on this is nothing new.

No, just no. Think before you post next time.

ITNews.com.au had an article about this which I posted up here but it appears my article didn’t get approved, head on over to ITNews.com.au though to check it out.

Yeah, MrPC. Let’s never try to improve anything, anywhere.

If you want decent broadband, move to Queanbeyan. Problem solved.

I’ve moved three times since getting an APS job in Canberra (while living in Sydney). Each time, the availability of Broadband was important to me, so I specifically avoided Gunghalin every time.

It’s called due diligence. Moving to Gunghalin then complaining about the broadband is like moving next to an airport then complaining about the noise, or moving next to a tip and complaining about the rats.

This also applies to Australia as a whole compared to the rest of the first wworld.

Kate Lundy…..geez that’ll ad some weight to the argument.

Mind you, having a look at her ‘before and after’ pics weight is one thing she can add
