Knowing the rider in question and what bike he rides this comment is not at all relevant to the unfortunate accident.

Dondon, as an avid cyclist myself, are you able to shed any light on what did cause this terrible accident? I’m sure many of us would like to know!

Likely to be two issues: what caused the crash and, quite possibly, not wearing a helmet might have caused the death. Surely critical head injuries are unlikely unless the rider was helmetless …

You’re speculating, you’re off the mark and you’re not helping the man’s family. Let’s save it for the coronial.

Except he was wearing a helmet.

It wasn’t the failure of dodgy equipment supplied by back-yarders, that’s for sure.

I do know of the details, but instead of speculate here I think we should wait until the coroners report. The police have sent the bike components off to an expert for analysis.

This is terrible news.

Thoughts are with the family + friends and all those who were with the cyclist on Kent Street.

The talk is that the frame on his bike collapsed.
There are lots of bike enthusiasts and back-yarders importing frames from the north. I doubt if there is any product liability insurance attached to these sales.

I also felt that it was a little bit of poor form to make a post discussing back-yarders and dodgy equipment and somewhat insinuating that this was the reason for this incident.

I hope the guy who had the fall is recovering.

Nope. http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/cyclist-dies-in-first-canberra-fatality-of-2015-20150201-133085.html

That’s very sad.

Maybe time for a suitable “AS” to be investigated.
I hope the guy who had the fall is recovering.
