Simon Corbell has announced the dispatch of 26 volunteers and 2 commanders to help the flood relief in the Riverina.

Two ACTSES taskforces will be deployed this week to the town of Hay, in the south west of the state, to assist the flood ravaged community, following a request for help from the NSW State Emergency Service, Mr Corbell said.

With floodwaters making their way down the Murrumbidgee River, rising levels have forced many residents of the area to evacuate from their homes. Floodwaters could force some areas to be inundated for a period of up to two weeks.

Best of luck to them.

I thought volunteers was shortened to Vollies, and a long bit in tennis is volleys?

Gosh! That’s what I get for being a pilkunnussija before my first coffee. I read vollies as an attempt at volleys, not a short version of volunteer. So sorry to our glorious leader. I will now go and kill myself by carving a perfect comma in my intestines.

A long bit in tennis is a rally; hitting the ball on the full is a volley.

But good on the SES dudes/dudettes (ir)regardless.

I thought volunteers was shortened to Vollies, and a long bit in tennis is volleys?

More importantly, is our resident SES person Thumper headed to Hay?

Given that this is about brave people doing something useful, perhaps I should control myself and let it slide. But the SES didn’t write the headline. It’s volleys, not vollies.

I hope they all make it home safely.
