Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Mudgee, Bathurst, Cooma, Yass, Parkes, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Tumbarumba.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don’t walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 6:10 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in Canberra and Queanbeyan, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

It built from about noon, moved in on the ACT, and fizzed right on our doorstep. That’s two days running now. We’re owed a doozy on Friday. Or maybe saturday when the change arrives.

Good forecast. Do you have any tips for today’s races?

Stayes in Royalla overnight, the storm passed right over us. Sensational lighting show, I stood out under the verandah & watched it for 1/2 an hour. It was great.

Woke this morning to some slight fog in the valley & a sensationally clear day.

I love living in the ACT.

looks like the warning was premature by 24 hours, and tonight’s storm has been triggered by me installing a (small) sprinkler system in one of my front garden beds, and also finally working how to use the automatic timer on a system in our backyard!

looking at the radar Tarago is currently getting hammered in a major way. It all seems to be blowing over us.

SES have stood up a number of units in anticipation of this afternoons downpour.

We really need some downpours, but so far it’s all vectoring east from the south and avoiding us. And teh western horizon looks innocuous. There’s some good stuff happening in the western interior but you’d expect it to be showing by now.
