The Bureau has given notice of wild weather:

For people in the South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and parts of the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains and Riverina Forecast Districts.
Issued at 3:09 pm Thursday, 19 January 2012.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Mudgee, Bathurst, Cooma, Yass, Parkes, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Tumbarumba.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don’t walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 6:10 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in Canberra and Queanbeyan, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

not surprised that canberra missed out on the storm yesterday.

have a close look at the warning map, and you will see that the yellow area curves around Canberra, such that Canberra is not included.

I was looking forward to it, but nary a droplet.

I think I heard 2 droplets on my pergola roof last night. Positively torrential…

Glad I watered the garden on Wednesday now.

Car could use a good downpour though. Oh, and the grass as it only gets a water when it rains. Not looking too bad though.

Sorry, is this a joke? Not even vodka is helping me get it.
‘Please explain.’

Poetix, I think you may have gone past the Ballmer Peak.

I’m sure I was at the time of writing! Thanks for the link, although as it is about programming skills I’d be starting at zero anyway.

The lack of rain seems to have made people go a little strange last night. (Me, not you, she added quickly.)

Where is the storm? It is 11:51pm and I have finished a bottle of sherry waiting for the lightning. Looks like you all tried to double guess Murphy so there is not going to be a storm now.

It built from about noon, moved in on the ACT, and fizzed right on our doorstep. That’s two days running now. We’re owed a doozy on Friday. Or maybe saturday when the change arrives.

Sorry folks, all my fault for washing my car last night.

No worries mate. My car hasn’t had a wash for ages, so I’m hoping it’ll get a dousing. 😉

I’ve just reported to AFP that Murphy has been stalking in everyone’s yard…

You didn’t mean Murphy’s law did you? Surely not?

I found a reference to Murphy’s drip, but I’ll allow others to follow that up.

Just got back from Orroral, it’s absolutely crazy. Heaviest rain I’ve seen in a long time, visibility down to a couple of metres at one point and fork lighting. Whole bunch of RFS vehicles were driving out as I was heading in.

Were the mushies good though?

I washed my car last night too. My sincere apologies to all affected by this inclement weather.

It’s down to me, I think. I’m getting the roof replaced, and my life is all tiles and ladders and tradesmen at the moment.
