Severe Weather Warning
for flash flooding
for people in the South Coast, Riverina, Illawarra, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Southern Tablelands forecast districts
Issued at 12:57 pm EDT on Monday 21 March 2011.
Weather Situation
A low over southwestern New South Wales moving southeast and a deep east to northeast airstream onto the coast.

Showers and thunderstorms which may lead to flash flooding is forecast for the South Coast and Illawarra forecast districts and parts of the Riverina, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains forecast districts.

Albion Park has recorded 63 mm in the past hour.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water.
Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EDT Monday.

not to mention the loser-cruisers, pretty agricultural on the best of days, real groan material this afternoon.

And it’s arrived. Isn’t it funny how we tend to get heavy rain just in time for the Canberra home-time derby? All the crazed tailgaters get to ply their trade with increased dedication and skill.

Not much action down here so-far, but the Illawarra area is copping huge falls today and highways/train lines are already cut. Report of 154mm today at Harold Park, SES are evacuating people as flood waters rise around Wollongong.
