The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for severe winds in these parts as a cold front smashes in tomorrow:

A strong cold front will cross NSW during Thursday with gale-force westerly winds expected for the southeast third of the state. Much colder conditions are expected for the Snowy Mountains Thursday with snow lowering to the 1300 metre level.

Damaging winds averaging around 65 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are possible for higher parts of the Snowy Mountains today. Damaging winds are expected to become more likely for the Snowy Mountains district tonight then extend to the Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Australian Capital Territory, South Coast and Hunter forecast districts Thursday morning. Winds in the Riverina and South West Slopes districts may also reach gale force. The alpine peaks may experience winds around 80 km/h with peak gusts of 125 km/h tonight and Thursday morning.

Blizzard conditions are expected for the Snowy Mountains above about 1300 metres during Thursday.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

— Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
— Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
— Keep clear of fallen power lines.

For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

Just looking at the ACT Emergency Services incidents map http://esa.act.gov.au/community-information/incidents-map/

It shows an active hazard reduction burn at Paddys River. Thought you kidding? In this wind? But if you pull up details it was two days ago. Not very current…
