Shane lines up Ron McLeod to audit Zed’s timesheets

By johnboy - 23 February 2012 2

Assembly Speaker Shane Rattenbury has released his statement to the house on where to next for the hapless Opposition Leader’s timesheet woes.

“I wish to inform the Assembly I have decided on an audit team to undertake the work. The audit team will be headed by Mr Ron McLeod AM and supported by locally based firm HBA Consulting.” Mr Rattenbury said in the statement to the Assembly.

“I have given the appointment careful consideration and am satisfied that the audit team is of the highest standard, will perform their task thoroughly and will deliver a report that provides answers to the questions the Assembly has raised. I believe the audit team are strongly equipped to now go and do exactly that.

I’m not sure anyone in the Assembly will enjoy the scrutiny of a grown up like McLeod.

Whatever the rights and wrongs turn out to be, this is a good choice. Ron McLeod is absolutely non-partisan, experienced, thorough and fair. Less likely to blow out the work and the schedule as some lawyers, judges etc might, so this should be over sooner rather than later. Really, the only issue is whether there is a sound basis for the ACT to be satisfied it received value for the money it paid for the staff of Assembly members and that’s less complicated than it looks. (Shall resist urge to troll about what staff allocation should be sufficient in the first place).

I’m not trying to get into the whole ‘Zed was illegally wrong/Who cares about timesheets’ debate, but I can see this now costing us at least the amount suspected of being rorted to sort it out!
