touch screen volunteer

Joy Burch has made the intriguing announcement that she’s putting touch screens up around town to solicit views on volunteering.

Throughout August and September, touch-screen devices with a few simple questions about volunteering will be placed around Canberra to gather information from the public on volunteering.

Ms Burch said the input would help the ACT Government craft an ACT Volunteer Statement which will provide a whole-of-government approach and support mechanism for organisations working with volunteers.

The touch-screen devices are due to be rolled out this week with locations set to include the Canberra Hospital and Housing ACT’s Central Access Point (formerly Gateway Services) in Belconnen.

Thoughts dear readers?

Wtf has Joy Burch not heard of Survey Monkey???

I looked at the Time to Talk web site… looks like the Nat Cap one. Anyway I dug far enough to find that there *is* a Survey Monkey option for those of us too lazy to create a login at Time to Talk or wander the streets looking for touch screens… the Survey Monkey link is on this page

I missed out on a cheap HP Touchpad, maybe I’ll take one of these.

Or… maybe I missed out because Joy Burch bought them all?

Stupid beyond belief.

Surely the only (serious) respondents will be those inclined to volunteer their time and attention. Possibly the worst survey design outside of self-reported surveys of penis size?

I don’t know where you people put your hands. I’m not using a touchscreen after your grubby little mits have been on it.

inb4 they get stolen or damaged

That doesn’t seem like the most statistically valid selection process to me, but I guess it’s no worse than ringing people up or harassing them on the street. Maybe time-rich survey subjects make a better sample than the weak-willed.
