The ABC informs us that Sharon Mortlock has plead guilty to negligent driving causing death midway through her commital hearing:

Today her lawyer told the ACT Magistrates Court his client would be pleading guilty to negligent driving causing death.

He told the court that Mortlock admitted she was negligent when she drove down Carr Crescent in Wanniassa with the victim on the bonnet of her car.

A statement of facts tendered to the court stated he had been on the front of her vehicle for about 120 metres when she braked, causing the victim to be thrown from the car.

Sentencing is scheduled for June.

I wonder whether people get influenced by the apparent invulnerability of characters in movies and tv programs – how often do you see someone bounce off the bonnet of a car which has just struck them at speed, and get up without any broken bones? I’m sure some of the bears of very little brain in our community believe that driving with someone on the bonnet isn’t really that dangerous.

Just a question to Anna Key..

my girlfriend lived in Wanniasssa (in a street behind carr cres) for most of her childhood and wonders if the people you are referring to were called “rabbits” as they had lots of kids. they also had a old purple car?.. the last name was McLeod she thinks.

Don’t know about you Hugh, but here on planet earth we identify people by their name.

If you follow the link provided you’ll note we’ve been following this case for a while.

He was trying to stop her from driving due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed that night.

Just putting it out there…
We don’t know why he was on the bonnet in the first place (as far as I know). Which could change peoples views on the event.

Oh, well I’ve misunderstood that ever since the last thread. That’s not nearly so bad.

Actually key evidence against her were the calls she made to emergency services following the accident.

And she drove off and left him there dead or dying without even calling for help.

Maybe he was negligent being on the bonnet of a moving car. Bet she gets off.

I understand “the victim” was her partner?

And while Carr Cres is in the news, why were the police out in force in the laneway out the back this afternoon?

Actually it is a nice neighbourhood. I lived there for a number of years and apart from the residents of one particular house, it was a nice quiet street. And I imagine it is now a lot nicer since recent events.

I think I’ve made my feelings about this individual’s behaviour clear in previous threads. At least she’s admitting guilt, even if it is only to ‘negligent driving’ causing death.

“negligent driving causing death”?

“he had been on the front of her vehicle for about 120 metres when she braked, causing the victim to be thrown from the car”; that’s not negligent, that’s willful.

adjective 1. guilty of or characterized by neglect, as of duty: negligent officials.
2. lazily careless; offhand: a negligent wave of his manicured hand.

Isn’t that the same street on which Peisley got knocked? What a lovely neighbourhood.
