Sheikh calls out Seselja

Seeing as how Zed Seselja now obviously has more time on his hands, Simon Sheikh thought it would be a lovely idea if they met up for a bit of a debate over Tony Abbott’s planned job cuts.

Following Zed Seselja’s announcement of his resignation from the ACT Legislative Assembly this morning, ACT Greens Senate candidate Simon Sheikh has reissued his invitation to Mr Seselja to attend a debate on the topic of Tony Abbott’s job cuts and their impact on Canberra’s families. Sheikh wrote to both Mr Seselja and Gary Humphries during their bitter pre-selection battle inviting the winner to a debate, but has as yet received no response.

“Canberrans have a real choice this election. The public service is the biggest employer in Canberra. When you cut jobs, the ripple effects hurt all Canberrans. I’m asking Zed Seselja to debate me on this topic and explain to the people of Canberra why they should vote for someone who will go along with these cuts” said Sheikh.

Sheikh, who along with other Canberrans has been calling on Zed Seselja to resign from the assembly as soon as he gave up on the people of Tuggeranong, has welcomed his resignation from the Assembly, describing it as ‘better late than never’.

“Zed Seselja’s resignation from the assembly is an admission that you can’t campaign for one tier of Government while pretending to represent another. It’s about time that Zed resigned from the Assembly and stopped campaigning on the public purse.”

Apparently Sheikh has been asking for this since before Zed’s pre-selection circus and has yet to hear back, so one could see how he’d be getting a little bit tired of waiting for their debate/dance-off to take place.

Zed, come out to play!

Ironic that Simon Sheikh had been calling for the resignation of Zed when he himself was in hot waters over trying to sign up people during lectures at ANU

How is that ironic?

http://www.dictionary.com, look up irony. go.

Yep. As I suspected. It’s not even slightly ironic. Not even in the Morrisettean sense.

ahhh this is the “Sheikh” who could / but then couldn’t remember if / when he was a paid up member of the Labor party.

…and the same Sheikh, who informed Canberra he worked for “Treasury” …… that was later discovered he worked for NSW Treasury.

That kind of career at any cost mentality has – in my view – delivered us a bunch of sh*t throwing monkeys in our parliaments.

Sandpit politics (uni) –> protest placard intelligence (activism) –> dogmatic brainwashing (party staffer) –> faeces throwing contest (federal parliament)

I’d much prefer to see professionals with experience in their field from a variety of backgrounds.

….. next time the Greens throw up a candidate …… why not give Al a go? At a minimum he is local and hard working.

Sheikh was recently spotted in the Canberra Centre wearing a Brumbies Jumper.

What are the chances he was a big fan of the Brumbies back in the late 90’s or even in 2001 when they cleaned up???

Probably about nil.

Call me Mr Cynical but Sheikh probably converted to the Brumbies roughly the time he decided to run for an ACT senate seat.

But they make great bread, and their pull-aparts are to die for, so who can blame him for wearing one of their tops.

It would be nice if a candidate bothered to live in the regions he’s meant to represent….

With the second part of the Whitlam documentary having aired last night, I would be most interested to hear whether Simon would be prepared to block a Coalition Budget in an attempt to stop further job cuts in Canberra.

It would also be good to hear his views on why it’s essential for DisabilityCare to be headquartered in Geelong, rather than Canberra (assuming that Simon would be fiercely opposed to any decentralisation plans from a Coalition Government) and to know whether (and if so, why) he thinks that the job and other cuts to spending in Canberra thus far implemented by the Gillard Government are OK. Last, but not least, in the miraculous event that Gillard is re-elected, what would Simon do to stop any further cuts by Labor.

I would have to say for a celeb candidate Sheikh has done well in disappearing in Canberra, cant say I’ve seen that much of him or any of the other greens this time around.

Maybe you need to get out more?
I saw him at the opening day of the Diversity ACT Hub.

Zed will not show for a debate, why would he? he can only lose, the less anybody really knows about him the better. The public will turn up and vote Libs above the line and Zed will skate into the Senate and a pay packet of $190K.

Just like Kate Lundy did for Labor.

Correct,

Both major parties know the status quo will remain and don’t really have to try. That’s also why Joe Hockey can make jokes about Canberras house prices falling under an Abbott Gov
