Can anyone recommend any good places for shift work or work with a lot of hours in Canberra?

Along the lines of factories or other places that run 24 hours etc?

Cheers

Don’t forget disability work, aged care, hospital wardsmen, womens’ refuges, kids refuges (eg LASA)- really any kind of community work…

Australia Post mailing centre – just around the corner from Jim Murphy’s Fyshwick – they sort mail all night

There’s an Aus Post warehouse in Mitchell too (Vicars St) where they sort mail at all hours of the day and night.

No idea about the Jail and if there are any jobs going there.

They advertised in the (Saturday) Canberra Times for prison guards a few weeeks ago.

I believe Media Monitors are always working.

How about an ISP Service Desk.

Oh yes, Teletech in Dickson, they are located in the Transact building on Northbourne Avenue, they provide Tech Support for Telstra Bigpond I believe.

If you stay back till ungodly hours of the morning, it does, but this can really affect study, as I found. Don’t let them put you on permanent part-time either. It really isn’t worth it.

There will always be security work in patrols, statis guarding, access control, or monitoring.
But you have to be thick-skinned\headed enough put up with security companies, their managers, and clients.

There’s potentially a lot of work in security.

I think Chubb or Sirco Sidexho(sp?) might be the best for the type of work you could be looking for. Access control at a number of government offices that I believe are manned for 24 hours.

Depending on the type of work you are after there are several answers to this question. I am aware that there are several printing companies out at Fyshwick, one of which is Pirion, that operate at all hours. As mentioned above, there are bakeries as well. If you’re looking for smaller scale, I guess Baker’s Delight or Woolworths/Coles bakeries could be an option too. I’d suggest having a drive around Fyshwick and maybe just asking around – short of being in the industry yourself I don’t think it’s a very well publicised thing.. Sorry for the minimal help!

It certainly is Buttercup, just down the road from where I work.
