Shiny, shiny things in the Canberra Centre

A bit after noon I was catching the escalator up from the ground floor of the Canberra Centre at the Dendy end of the building.

With the sun shining down through the skylight the hanging sculpture suddenly came to life.

As I wasn’t the only one gawking at the effect I shot a few seconds video for you all to enjoy.

I actually hadn’t noticed they were missing, but every other time I walked- well escalated – by them I was distracted away the shiny towards the fact that they were covered in an inch of dust.

It’s a bird-scarer. They must have birds eating their crop or something.

They are actually highly visible from 10 storeys up in the neighbouring buildings, to the point where blinds have to be closed.

I loved that it was removed as I’d previously been blinded by them hitting me as well. Interesting concept but poor execution. I feel sorry for all the staff working in the direct area as well, that’d shit me to tears.

It is horrendous. I encourage all those who are irritated by this monstrous torture device to fill in a customer complaint form at the Canberra Centre information desk or send an email to customerservice@canberracentre.com.au

You just might get some coffee vouchers out of the deal.

That’s fantastic! I’ve never seen them lit up quite like that before. I also really love all those coloured circles hanging outside of the Canberra Centre.

I’ve seen them lit up like that before… many times… many many terrible times. The outside coloured circles though are pretty cool.

Ah they finally put it back. It was there from openning until a few months ago, must have taken it away for cleaning.

That’s correct. Now that they aren’t caked in dust they are back to their full blinding power.

I like, and am distracted by, shiney things as much as the next person, but i’d actually hoped these slightly tacky danglers were gone for good

Okay – maybe laserdisks then 😛

They actually look like those old laserdiscs you could buy but was a kind of dud technology.

OH MY GOD JB – that is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen! Goodbye CD/DVD collection, hello incredible decorations!

We’ll once you’ve ripped them what good are the disks anyway?

Worth noting though that these ones are much bigger than standard CD/DVDs.

A skylight is the equivalent of a 20,000W globe?

Sunlight is seriously bright.. reflected efficiently it can certainly surprise. I got a big bright flash of it half a km up the corridor from it.

I almost got blinded by one of these things from the other centre one day. At the right angle, they are like a freaking laser
