I can understand when people park their cars in narrow streets or cul-de-sacs that they may obstruct the road a little, meaning anyone driving past has to take a little more care. Although, if it’s a narrow street, most responsible drivers would be driving slower than on a main thoroughfare to make allowances for any parked cars.
However, if I was to hire a shipping container for the purpose of storing something at my property, I think I would make sure the container was actually on my property, or at least on the nature strip and not parked out on the street where it would partially block the road.
Someone has done just that and parked a shipping container on the side of the road on Ross Smith Crescent, just up from the shops in Scullin.
The container is up against the curb, but juts well out into the road, at least half-blocking one lane of the road.
While Ross Smith Crescent is by no means a major arterial road, it does see it’s fair share of traffic (and I must say I’ve witnessed quite a few drivers travelling well above the signposted 60kmp/h) and I’m concerned that the container could cause someone to have an accident.
I’d also be mildly concerned for the owner(s) of the shipping container should someone happen to come unstuck as a result of the container. Would or could they face legal action?
Given the supposed apathy demonstrated by the AFP (if other recent threads are to be believed), is it worthwhile bothering to ask the police? (I thought not, hence the reason I am posting here on RiotACT).
