The ABC brings the unhappy news that Canberra’s youth refuges are so under-funded that we’re shipping the kids to Goulburn.

Speaking for the Government, Joy Burch says the homelessness and housing dot points are working nicely.

I can imagine the kids sleeping in cloths bins around the Capital.

I think its even more worrying that kids under the age of 15 can’t get into refuges at all (and there are growing numbers of homeless kids under 15 years old), because legislatively, refuges aren’t allowed to.

There are 11 and 12 year old homeless kids out there who are lucky if they get a tent from a youth centre, because there’s nothing else.

Now that his ban on entering the city has been lifted they could be use Todd Carney as a mentor.

Maybe a change of scenery is a good thing for them…?

It is such a shame we can find 1400 a day per inmate of youth detention (story below on Bimberi) , but cant find a much smaller amount to fund more spots in youth refuges, to keep a few of them off the streets and out of trouble.
