A trail of bullet holes and two burnt vehicles mark a crime scene following a shooting and arson incident in Lawson overnight.
Police were called to a vehicle fire at a home in Narrambla Terrace, Lawson at about 10:00 pm last night (10 June).
Residents and neighbours had partially extinguished a fire coming from two vehicles located in the driveway of the home. The fire was fully extinguished by ACT Fire and Rescue.
Police also found two partially melted fuel containers under one of the vehicles and identified a number of bullet holes spread across both levels of the home. Three people were in the home at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured.
A crime scene was established and the AFP Forensics and AFP Firearms Identification and Armoury Team attended and conducted an examination of the scene.
Police believe multiple people were involved in the incident. Two people were seen running from the scene and getting into a dark-coloured four-door hatch-style car that was parked near the intersection of Narrambla Terrace and Solong Street shortly prior to the arrival of police.
Chief of ACT Policing’s criminal investigations Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said investigators are seeking witnesses and information from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in Lawson overnight or who may have any CCTV, dash-cam footage or information that could assist police.
He said it is still too early to say whether the incident was a targeted attack, or was related to bikie gang activity.
“We are looking at links to any known involvement from people in that residence,” Detective Superintendent Moller said. “From the witness accounts, we’re keen to talk to the two people seen leaving the residence, along with anybody who has information relating to those two people.
“It’s a terrible incident that’s happened and it’s something the ACT Policing is focused on solving and bringing the people responsible to court.”
