Short lived home invasion career

ACT Policing arrested a 35-year-old Hawker man early this morning (Wednesday, January 26) after a home invasion in Hawker.

Around 10.00pm last night (Tuesday, January 25), a 67-year-old man was inside his unit preparing for bed when the alleged offender knocked on his front door. The man had a conversation with the alleged offender, who then forced his way into the unit and tied him up.

The alleged offender left the unit, taking the victim’s vehicle and fled the area. During this time the victim managed to free himself and contacted police.

Police located the vehicle an hour later at a service station in Civic where the alleged offender was arrested and conveyed to the City Watch House. The male was charged with forcible confinement, burglary, robbery, common assault, intentionally threat to kill a person and take motor vehicle without consent.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday, January 27).

I should probably explain my previous point.

No, police will lay charges relevant to the incident. If four or five offences arise from one incident, then that’s what the offender will be charged with.

Yes, deals are done occasionally, but not for this reason:

If they don’t ‘bargain’ with the dungheaps they don’t get enough convictions.

Awww jeez JustThinking, you really know how to spoil a guys day! I was thinking with that raft of charges lined up that he’d surely go the Big House for a while, but I suspect that you may be right.

Oh well. Perhaps he’ll try to invade my house one day.

With a list of charges like burglary, assault, threat to kill etc all in one go you’d think this arsehat might end up doing some time. I hope the victim comes out of it all right. It must’ve been an appalling experience for an elderly bloke who was evidently on his own.

And the perp has probably (hopefully) pissed away a few years of his life for an hours joyride in a stolen car. There may well be criminal masterminds out there, but the cataclysmic stupidity on display here would indicate that this mobile dungheap isn’t one of them.

I’m sure society is to blame.
