Should the CM's official site be promoting the ALP's?

So I was having a looksie over the Chief Minister’s predictably wooden message to the community on his website:

Canberra is a great place to live. I am proud to be the Chief Minister of such a fantastic part of our world.

My Government is committed to ensuring that all Canberrans have access to information about our plans and important issues affecting their lives.

This site is part of that goal. Other important and useful sites can be found on the links page. I trust that my site is useful and I look forward to serving you in the years to come.

Jon Stanhope
Chief Minister, Australian Capital Territory.

And for the first time ever I was inspired to go take a look at the links page. It’s a mostly anodyne and slightly sad list of links to other pages which are also sets links and not anything particularly usefull. But I was struck by this one of the six:

Australian Labor Party, ACT branch (external website)

Now on the one hand it’s the Chief Minister’s website and he obviously thinks the rest of the political spectrum in Canberra is rubbish and of no interest to the public, unlike the glorious ACT Branch of the ALP. On the other hand it is an official Government website so perhaps some balance should be in place?

Your thoughts?

OH MY GOD!!!
care…

…nope!

Inasmuch as the Chief Minister was elected to implement the policies of the ACT Branch of the ALP, it seems reasonable to link to where those policies may be found. Indeed it might be seen as deceptive or hiding something not to.

Federal ministrial websites link to their political sites, I don’t see the issue.

Sorry that sounded argumentative. Should have added “to the best of my knowledge”.

It’s just the way it is. The Federal Govt at present is Liberal. The ACT Govt is ALP.

Well it seems fair to me… if they put a link up for other parties, they are basically advertising their competitors…

LG, i was always a little fond of the pretence that the governing party wasn’t the same thing as the government.

i know i’m a bit behind the times with this sort of thing.

I think it’s reasonable. It is a link to the Government’s website.

Seems fair enough to me. There is some vague relationship between the present ACT Govt and the ALP, it is said. If the Opposition were in power, can you see them providing a link to the ALP? Then there’s the Greens…

just asking the question…

the link will be raising the local ALP’s search engine ranking so not entirely insignificant.

like i said, asking the question not saying i have the answers.

i smell nit picking…

Surely he should put up a link to the Liberals’ page as well then?

Would you expect anything less in an autocracy?
