Simon accelerates land supply

Simon Corbell has announced that he’s doubling the pace of land release in the ACT, the single most effective move to improve housing affordability!

Actually he put out a release celebrating the eco-friendliness of the “Brindabellas Bonython” development which sounds like a small spiky plant but is actually a new suburb as for as I can tell. Down the bottom of the release he slipped this tidbit in:

“This year the ACT Government is providing some 2000 dwellings in the accelerated land release program. This supply represents a more than doubling of last year’s program. A mix of allotments is being supplied ACT-wide to accelerate supply and ensure a range of housing types to suit different lifestyles and needs,” Mr Corbell said.

Not quite sure what drove this approach but the plug for the developer in the footer of the Minister’s media release was a nice touch too.

He won’t get away with that. The people who move in will demand that the airport close for being too noisy – and win!

Just wait till Snowy starts building houses at the ex-RAAF base at Fairbairn!

For those persons with jobs/roles relating to the LA and local political parties who read this site on the sly, YOU NEED TO TAKE NOTES ON THIS THREAD, ESPECIALLY THE COMMENT ABOVE!!

naturally its outside ACT boundaries surrounded by like size blocks in a picturesque rural-residential surrounds where I can not only park my car on my block but have have several friends over without crowding the street. My kids can ride bikes on dirt mounds without others whinging as well !!

Hey Snahon – 9980sqm? That’s HUGE! But I strongly suspect you have bought OUTSIDE the ACT, where people actually have some idea about development!

once the land purchase is settled and stamp duty paid… you would be surprised what happens

Morgan I believe they have a provision that prevents resale of the vacant block at a profit…

By Nature they mean ‘urban’ nature, not ‘natural’ nature 😛
I think I’ll stick with my 9980 sqm block and 25 min from civic – now thats nature !!!

“Nature under your doorstep” now

When this development was first announced, they put up a big billboard out the front stating “Nature at your doorstep”.

They then promptly bulldozed all the nature, and it’s now a large brown paddock.

Regular, moderate land releases are the only way to stop the market jumping all over the place. It would be nice to have a bit more choice in where to buy, though.

Simon on his meds again?

wanna make easy money?

if you have the 10% deposit to spare in cash now, register for the actpla land ballots… if you score one, you’ll have builders who have missed out (and those that have not) clammering to take it off you for above “market” price

get on!

Eco-friendly Brindabella’s Bonython?

I drive past it every day and it looks like a strip mine.

I’m guessing it’s all townhouses….but I could be wrong.

200 blocks ha!

I reckon the blocks will be at max 400m sqaure. Less that a third of my size block.
