Simon badly caught out as prison boss sacked

Its the same with most of the ‘screws’ there.
As a visitor to the AMC, i was sworn at and treated with disrespect. Im not the prisoner Here!!

I smell a rat.

Corbell is dodging this one like a slimy worm. He won’t even answer questions about it in the Legislative Assembly. Given Buchannan was running AMC (not just a ‘screw’) I imagine this constitutes a public interest matter. As a member of the public I believe I have the right to know what kind of person is/was running AMC and the circumstances surrounding his unexpected and unexplained departure.

This portfolio has done nothing for Corbell’s credibility. Then again, it might not be the portfolio to blame …

The lack of comments on this issue is very unusual.

I would have expected the usual hang’em and flog’em brigade to be out in force defending Mr Buchanan.

Incidentally, though it is being described as assault, it is presumably a Use Of Force which the HRC believes to be excessive. Force is used frequently in prisons – it is the nature of the clientele.

Whether it was excessive in this case, only those who have watched the video will know. And unless they also watch videos of other uses of force for comparison, and also know the context of this incident, they may not in a good position to judge whether this one was excessive.

Extreme force, by police, corrections officers, and nurses in psychiatric units, is sometimes justifiable if it is to prevent an even more serious incident.

I would be more interested in seeing the cctv video footage of the assault. Seeing as Mr Buchanan was leading by example it would be interesting to see. The notion that assaults committed by people in a powerful position should be overlooked is well entrenched in the community. Lets see what kind of assault we should turn a blind eye to.
