Simon Corbell is expressing confusion after the firefighters union walked away from the Labor Party:
“I am deeply saddened by the UFU’s decision and am at a loss to understand exactly why the union has come to this conclusion today.
“I hope the United Firefighters Union will reflect on their decision and to consider what is in the best interests of the service and the community when it comes to ongoing funding and support from government.
“I am confident that the United Firefighters Union will recognise that the Australian Labor Party is the party that will put them first, and will continue to deliver for ACT Fire and Rescue.
“The decision of the UFU will not change the commitment of the ACT Labor Government to continue to invest in ACT Fire and Rescue to ensure people of Canberra are equipped with a service which continues to deliver the best response times in the nation.”
