There seems to be a lot of furious agreement around the traps that community gardens are great.

To that end Simon Corbell has announced what he’d do for them if re-elected:

If re-elected in 2012, ACT Labor will fund 10 more community gardens across Canberra in existing suburbs to make our community places and spaces even better.

We will provide an additional $200,000 over four years in capital funding to establish the community gardens through a new Community Garden Funding Program.

This funding commitment is in addition to our existing commitment to cut red tape in the establishment and operation of community gardens.

Our local COGS garden was vandalized so much they had to throw the towel in. Good idea but I bet one person or group of people end up doing all the hard work.

Great idea – specially if the Greens carry out their threat to make us all only eat local food! (Mangel Wurzels and kale in winter ….. no coffee ….. never a mango …)

The Stuart and Gowrie Court flats in Griffith would be a wonderful location for a community garden. There would be no shortage of a very particular green weed plant variety which of course would need regular pruning.

Better yet. Knock them down and make two huge gardens!

Simon released this exact same policy a while ago. Talk about re-announcing announcables.

Those COGS gardens are ugly old things. Not sure how they can be said to make any space look better.

That said, I hope they do put some real community-style gardens in some of the areas with smaller blocks to give people a chance to garden. Not everyone who buys an apartment in Braddon does so to avoid gardening.

I think simon remembered he has a blog today and a bunch of stuff went up dated today we’ve seen before.

this one fooled me.

All carrot, no stick!

Well, that would be great provided they’re not administered by that COGS mob who demand a $30 ‘membership’ fee to ‘apply to go on the waiting list’ for a non-existant bed…
