Simon Corbell has announced an “alcohol alliance” with NSW and a review of the Liquor Act 2010.

Readers might remember the Liquor Act didn’t seem to do very much about problem drinking but did make life harder for the Labor Party’s competitors in the hospitality sector (remember all those Labor Clubs?)

Simon’s review is intended to find out what effect his changes might have had.

IT doesn’t look like there any representatives from the industry in this alliance…. Pubs know alcohol-fuelled violence is the worst form of advertising for their industry, so I’m sure they have some views on harm-minimisation from a practical perspective.

The 2010 liquor laws didn’t meet their objectives because Corbell refused to meet with smaller pubs until after the laws had been set in place.

Given the make up, this alliance looks set to merely confirm what Corbell wants.
