Simon Sheikh has Gina Rinehart as his mentor?

Various press reports yesterday have it that the ACT Greens were advertising overseas for a fulltime worker for Simon Sheikh’s Senate campaign and planning to pay them less than Gina Rinehart’s infamous “$2 an hour” – in fact, they were going to be paid a bit of board and lodging, and the airfare. Visa, 457 issues much?

Could this really be the office of the selfsame Simon Sheikh of GetUP? Concerned with workers’ rights? Campaigning against the 457 visa and worker exploitation?

Updated reports had it that Ellen Sandell, Sheikh’s campaign manager, had “filled the position locally”. That’s great news – but it begs further questions. Are they paying this person? They suddenly found a budget? Or is the person independently wealthy and able to sustain themselves from now until September on no pay? A retiree with amazing online skills? Or, ahem, will this successful be sustained on Newstart or the disability pension? I expect Hank Jongen might have something to say about that on Today Tonight!

I get GetUp’s emails just to see what the Greens and their fellow pipsqueaks on the Left are thinking. Not a peep out of them about this but they are still lauding their thuggery at the Institute of Public Affairs dinner.

Roll on September 14 when we can slam the door on the Left and their stupid ideas once and for all.

Was this the same position that was advertised through his Facebook page? If so it was advertised as a cadetship, with no pay. I guess they must have advertised in globally of it is. Most people who work on Political Campaigns do it for free, I have worked on two federal campaigns and one Local campaign and probably put in over 200hrs of unpaid work. So I don’t see it as a big deal, the party I have helped in previous campaigns is not the Greens.

I don’t think this big media hype lead by an ex Rudd speech writer will have much effect on the election result here in Canberra. As I have said before it would be a minor miracle if the Greens could steal the seat from the Libs, It would mean a conservative vote of less than 33.34% across Canberra. Given a lot of suburbs in Brindabella polling well over 50% for the libs in last years LA election. 33.34% is a pretty easy target, that’s why the Libs preselection was so fiercely fought.

Yes I do watch Today Tonight from time to time – usually on the night I watch Q&A – and I am subscribed to a leftish Fairfax outlet, plus The Monthly and Crikey. What constitutes valid watching and reading to you, “JonahBologna”?

Ah the Australian, telling us how the world should be not how it is. Hope they checked first to make sure that their team has never used foreign volunteers in campaigning before drawing attention to it.

I’m sure Rupert misses her dreadfully.

Surgical removal of the irony gland, and enhancement of the “do as I say, not as I do” gland is mandatory in public life these days.

What a disappointment. I thought he might have been throwing coins into the well of Poesie, under the tutelage of Ms R.
