Christmas in Democracy goes on as the clock ticks down to the caretaker period.

Today Simon Corbell has turned the sod on Charnwoods combined ambulance and fire station of the world to come.

“Residents in West Belconnen will have increased emergency service coverage with this $21.3million investment by the ACT Labor Government with a combined state-of-the-art ambulance and fire service to come online by late 2013,” Mr Corbell said.

“We know that emergency response time is a critical factor in saving lives, property, and the environment and this new station will form part of this government’s planned improvements to the network of emergency facilities across the Territory.

“To be delivered by successful contractor Manteena Pty Ltd, the Charnwood station is a key first step in the government’s station upgrade and relocation strategy which focuses on improving emergency services coverage across the Territory.”

Yeah, Simon is definitely a sod.

Bet you wouldn’t say that if it’d been Andrew Barr turning the sod!

how many complaints were there on the extra traffic and noise likely to arise from this development?

I mean – all those incoming and outgoing vehicles… all the noise from sirens etc…

Sirens in Charnie? No way.

Yeah, Simon is definitely a sod.

Hope the new roundabout is big enough. I also hope they don’t just leave the old fire station for the kiddies to throw rocks at for the next 20 years.

Apart from that, I reckon the residents of West Belco would love the new improved services.
….and the service people no longer have to drive their fire trucks all over town looking for dinner 🙂

Well Done
