Simon wants your thoughts (again)

There has been a stack of work going into the lead-up to this draft release by people in community groups, industry and ACTPLA, with quite a lot of workshops prior to Xmas.

As louise says, it is up to everyone to get into this one. I think it’s the main game in town at present.

If the ‘bar’ is set at the right level, it can make everything a whole lot easier and predictable for communities and community groups. If apathy and inaction lets that bar be set at too low a level, then industry will have a party.

I’ve found most people who get involved in debate on RA are people who give a damn about their town (city?), so I ask everyone to have a look at the draft and get online and make your comments.

I’ve also found – contrary to Thumper’s comment above – the people at ACTPLA working on this draft are truly responsive people to work with, but they can only work with what we give them – no community comment means no community say.

As the saying goes: decisions are made by those who turn up.

Submitting your plan electronically is a good way of saying we’ve got no public servants left to do the processing anyway.

Rights of appeal to muti-storey developments next door, even if they don’t meet guidelines, rights to put up a shed in the backyard. That’s the point – how do we know if we haven’t read it yet? The Territory plan is supposed to be the strategic plan for Canberra, so any changes should be well scrutinised. They’ll do what they want anyway, but at least this branch of government appears to listen a bit.

It’s probably one of those things we should all read. Missing this one now could mean losing rights down the track.
