Following on from this morning’s release of reviews Simon Corbell is claiming success in prison management on the back of an absence of riots.

But moving forward he has plans:

“The Government always anticipated there would be areas for improvement in the first year of operation at the AMC, and the audit shows that we need to work to improve governance, record keeping and reporting capability, the way we segregate and manage different classifications of detainees, improve our counselling capability, rationalise the detainee disciplinary process and enhance the range of food available to detainees.”

“To tackle these issues today I am announcing the formation of a taskforce, to be led by the new Executive Director of ACT Corrective Services, to advise the Government on an appropriate response to the report and then oversee implementation of the Government’s response.”

This new taskforce will consist of:

— Executive Director of ACT Corrective Services, Ms Bernadette Mitcherson, (Chair);
— AMC Superintendent, Mr Doug Buchanan;
— Elected member of the ACT Indigenous Elected Body (Justice, Correctional Services), Mr Fred Monaghan;
— Official Visitor to the AMC, Mr Jeremy Boland; and,
— Northside Community Services Chief Executive, Mr Simon Rosenberg.

“I have asked the AMC Task Force to provide me with initial advice quickly so that the Government is in a position to announce its formal response to the report as soon as possible,” Mr Corbell said.

True Bear. If I follow you correctly, you were thinking I was on Jeremy’s team. I would suggest there’s a fair gap between Jeremy’s politics and my own, and I don’t find myself agreeing with Jeremy very much at all. Certainly wouldn’t waste a vote on him, so I’m not likely to be in here agitating for him.

true, although context and intent is important.If I were to refer to myself as Macdonald, and purport to be an authority on Hamburgers, somebody might feel entitled to get upset.

Anyway, seems from your comment I was certainly mistaking you for someone else.

“Does that make you sarcastic and provocative too?”

maybe…

Incidentally, it ain’t my preferred choice to remain anonymous – but I like receiving a salary.

My google search shows 15.8 million hits for ‘James Ryan’. I think it’s fair to say that no one person has a mortgage on the name.

Speak of puppet shows, looks like somebody has cut the strings, or Jeremy is looking for a bit part under a stage name that bears a spitting image to someone elses

Well Wily_Bear, if that is your real name, I can confirm that I’m certainly not Jeremy.

My apologies, consider the looking glass recalibrated. Now we’ve cleared that up, will the real JR please stand up ?

No, I have not been invited.

I had you figured for Simon Rosenberg. I’ll have to recalibrate my looking glass.

I can’t see any reason for James_Ryan’s sarcasm, as I can’t recall ever making comment on Riot Act about the “Hamburger Report”.

As Wily_Bear suggests, James_Ryan is starting to look very much like an Agent Provocateur.

Now I’m sarcastic and provocative? I guess that’s alright.

For the record, and now that there is a legitimate thread about it, I agree with everything James_Ryan has said about it.

No riots as the prisoners do what they want, so why would the riot????

Has ‘Mental Health Worker’ got himself a chair on Simon’s new taskforce?

Surely this “taskforce” is a waste of time providing little more than the perception of control on Corrective Services’ behalf.

The Government has three whole department with people well placed (not to mention whose job it is) to advise Government on the appropriate response.

This “development” suggests either that Health has lost the lead on this one (less likely) or that Simon’s office has resorted to a puppet show in order to find a positive story.
