What about the poor people who don’t have insurance on their cars? Can’t get to work, can’t afford to buy a new one. This sort of act would have huge consequences on people’s lives. This country is far too soft on crime, if they catch the little bastards doing this they should be put to hard labour till they pay back everything they damaged then cut a hand each off to serve as a reminder of what they did

“Hard labour”?

That is an alien concept for the ACT judiciary.

They don’t even have an equivalent for “soft labour”.

I wonder if all those wrecks on the side of the road with smashed windows are all stolen and dumped? There seems to be more than the usual number and it isn’t even the school holidays.

What exactly is going on in Canberra? Cars are being set alight, heaps of others being stolen or broken in to.

Maybe its an organised campaign against those evil, polluting, push bike unfriendly cars that also take up lots of parking space that could otherwise be sold to developers ? Or a plot to reduce the number of cars so as to increase Tram passenger numbers ??

What exactly is going on in Canberra? Cars are being set alight, heaps of others being stolen or broken in to. I can see why break ins would occur, to get money or items to support drug habits, but why burn them? Teens getting bored, because all the green spaces are being turned into multi unit apartment blocks or fenced off and locked up after hours? Vandalism seems to have made a huge increase in frequency, as our local bus stop has had windows smashed in on a daily basis. Out of six panes of glass on the back wall, in the last week only three remain in place, one of which is also smashed but not shattered due to being laminated.
More surveillance for identity and more police patrols at night are needed to round up these imbeciles who have no respect for private or public property. It is in the community interest, because our insurance premiums are going to change to reflect the risk of certain suburbs, not to mention the loss of no claim discounts to the victims. What about the hassles of not having a car till insurance pays out, or the loss of personal property inside the cars too? Thugs do not care or realize the impact their insolence has on society and somebody needs to take a stand to teach them a sorely needed lesson.

When was the last time you saw a pro-active police patrol in your neighbourhood?
