Size Of Lake Notices

Given the recent announcements about Blue Green Alge I was surprised to see children swimming in lake Tuggeranong on the weekend.

I spoke to the parents who were unaware of the lake condition.

After some searching I found the warning notice on a pole near the boat ramp, this notice was about the size of an A3 page and near other signage.

Surely bigger and better placed signage is appropriate given the dangers involved?

And suddenly the need for technologies like this makes a little more sense: http://www.laservision.com.au/page.asp?lid=1&sec=Hot+Press&id=130

(There are so many laws and safeties, that it seems nearly impossible to have an accident. The problem though, is that we need accidents, and lots of them.

Danger is nature’s way of eliminating stupid people. Without safety, stupid people die in accidents. Since the dead don’t reproduce, our species effectively becomes more intelligent (or at least, less stupid).

With safety in place, no matter how well intentioned it may be, we are devolving into half-witted mutants, because idiots (who by all rights should be dead) are free to go out and breed even more imbeciles.

Let’s do away with safety and improve our species. Run with scissors; play with blasting caps; jaywalk; go swimming after a very large meal; stick something in your ear. Do all of these things and do them with gusto;

Future generations will thank you!)

Look mate, if you stand as a candidate for the next ACT election I’ll vote for you. Seriously.

The Luftwaffe will be bombing tonight, and the panzers and infantry will crush all resistance before sunrise tomorrow.

I was kayaking on the lake and failed to find the blue-green algae and its often not hard to see.
I think the real issue is its too difficult to monitor the whole lake and apply area specific bans or remove the ban quickly when the lake clears up. Its much easier to just say no, and then people abuse that because its like the boy who cried wolf.
