Hi alym ,

I would personally recommend Luke Clews at Kingston skin clinic.

Have been to few places in the past but will not look any where else now.

My 2 cents.

Thought I’d give a quick review for 360uv as I found it through this site in the first place.

Couldn’t be happier. Had a full inspection from Dr Darryl Howe who really took his time, was happy to discuss individual moles / suspicious bits and gave comprehensive advice about checking out your skin at home. Inspection took a full half hour, got some pics done for annual review and had a lesion removed from my temple. Only a few days wait for day surgery, which went really well – they even gave me a courtesy call today to see how things are going.

Overall, fantastic service, great information, very comfortable facilities (and if you’re lucky, all covered by your private health insurance – mine wasn’t, I think because of the class of lesion, but fees were very reasonable).

Whilst i am aware this is a very old topic – i was wondering for all the people who made reccomendations, did any of these doctors give you anything to be a bit fuzzy before your procedure? – i am petrified of anything cutting into my face while i am awake and can’t seem to get the procedure done. I make the appointment then i chicken out – if anyone could help me i would be forever greatful.

i have a small mole on my chin that needs to be removed.

Has anyone been to 360uv ? it seems to be fairly new. http://www.360uv.com.au/

Yep, I went there a few months ago for the first time. Initially I was skeptical but the doc who does the skin check is a skin specialist. Very thorough exam, happy to explain things in detail. Very happy and will be going there for future checks.

If you have questions skin problems then look no further than to dermatology.See what a dermatologist can do for you.Get advice about good skin clinics from friends or family members and schedule an appointment.Dermatology is concerned with everything related to skin, not just with acne problems. You can get screened for skin cancer and learn how to take better care of your appearance.

Dr. Andrew Miller near Civic in Turner is really one the best. It’s certainly a waiting period, but well worth it. He is used by the Sydney University as a teacher to the new surgical students as well (so I understand) so his reputation is well grounded.

Make an appointment – you won’t be disappointed.

Sounds like you had skin tags, the best way to get them off, is to tie string around them, before bed, they will drop off.

If you suspect something that is not right with your skin, get it check out by a skin specilist, I went to a doctor and complained about a new pinkish mole that was ichy, she asked me if I had been bitten by a spider, so I asked for a referral to a skin specilist, turned out it was a BCC (cancer).

hi,

can anyone suggest a good GP that will freeze off moles in canberra? want to freeze a few off my face.

Yes I just googled skin cancer clinics and came up with them – looks highly dodgy as its run by a plastic surgeon and the other guy is also a surgeon (albeit one who specialises in melanoma) I would want such a clinic to be run by a dermatologist.

Amazing how many skin cancer experts we have here we have posting here….especially those that have never really had one.
A biopsy is essential for anything vaguely looking like a skin cancer that is removed, not only does it tell you and the doctor what it was, but if removal was complete. This is dont under a microscope, you can’t simply look at it and proclaim you’ve removed it all!
I’ve had several Basal cell carcinomas frozen off and they ALL have left a scar.
Some things MUST be surgically removed, a proper melanoma is very deep into the skin, or at least all three I’ve had removed have been. They were typically as deep as they were wide.
Doctors that remove moles, panicking you into believing it’s a skin cancer, frankly are taking your money. Unless that mole has increased in size significantly or other similar indicators, you have been had.
It amazes me that people trivialise skin cancers, they are just as likely to lead to secondary cancers and can be extremely disfiguring in their own right.
If you’ve never had skin cancer and just get moles removed purely for your extreme vanity, perhaps you should bow out of the discussion, as you have nothing of relevance to add.

I’m sure melanoma sufferers will be pleased to know their GP’s time is being wasted by such pointless procedures.

El – so does plastic surgery, lypo, tooth veneers, breast enlargement….. I’ll stop there, but you get the picture?

el – cosmetic reasons would be a more common reason than necessity for removal. I guess some of us are vainer than others.

Seriously? That’s completely ridiculous.

Most moles just manage to hang on by one or two layers of skin – I’ve actually had 2 just fall off of their own accord without any intervention. Funnily (if that’s the word) of the several people I know who have developed skin cancer requiring surgery, all their cancers developed in what they considered good healthy skin.

There’s no need to be stung for an autopsy of the mole either, particularly if it’s not suspect.

This just doesn’t make sense.

If it’s not suspect, why is it being removed (frozen or otherwise) in the first place?

I agree with Billyboy.
If you can get moles/ sunspots/ haemangiomas frozen off do it: much quicker and less painful.
My GP does it in his rooms, I have had one frozen off my nose(!), and other than small scab for a few days, it healed up fine with no scarring at all.
I have also had the ‘jab and hack’ method for a large mole and found it pretty painful for some time. Lots of blood!! Neessary though, I would think , for a larger skin lesion
A member of my family has had melanoma.
Just get it checked!

South side, Dr Stephen Barson in Kambah village shopping centre (upstairs).
Very efficient, well run practice, appointments always within 5 mins of time etc.
I’ve had a couple of cuts done there and several freezes.
I’ve had five Basal cell carcinomas surgically removed at various places around NSW, he is by far the best yet.

interested in any second opinions on what billyboy says…. i want some moles dealt with in a proactive way but don’t want invasive stuff to do so.

The one at Jamison is really good and I found much quicker to get into than Hawker. Avoid the one in Kambah, the scars he left are horrid and according to other docotrs I’ve seen, unnecessary

I lived in Darwin for 4 years and the Docs up there know their stuff. One thing I wanted to say was up there they freeze moles off, the same as warts. In Canberra, they seem to prefer invasive surgery. Freezing leaves barely a mark, the mole falls off by itself. 99% of moles just sit on the surface of your skin – they don’t have roots as some people believe!!!

There’s no need to be stung for an autopsy of the mole either, particularly if it’s not suspect. Try and find a doc that will freeze it off and make sure they use a dry ice pot, not cotton wool wrapped on a stick. I’ve had a few moles removed by all these methods so am speaking from experience. It should end up costing no more than the cost of a visit.

definately the one in Hawker – five stars

Dr Andrew Morris of The Morris Practice in Kingston is a wholistic style GP who also has a specialty skin cancer practice of some sort I believe. I highly recommend him and his practice.

Dr van Rensberg at Tilyard Drive Medical Centre in Charnwood has a skin clinic as part of his practice and is one of the best doctors I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Not sure if they’re taking new patients right now though.

I’ve also been to the one in Hawker. It wasn’t cheap, but worth every cent when they discovered and removed something sus from Mr RatsNest

I second what RandomPoster said.
I’ve been there as well. Very professional.

I have been to the one in Hawker, they seemed quite good. I believe they are called “Canberra Skin Cancer Clinic”
