One would like to think that a man who beats up his mother and threatens her visitors with a chainsaw might be incarcerated.
But this is Canberra where, according to the ABC it warrants a $2,500 fine.
In April last year bricklayer Thomislav Pavicic, 32, threatened a visitor at his mother’s home with the chainsaw.
The Magistrates Court heard Pavicic threatened to “cut” the man with the chainsaw while brandishing it above his head.
Pavicic was convicted of assault for that offence, as well as threatening the man with a three-metre-long fishing gaff.
The day before, Pavicic had assaulted his mother, throwing her to the ground and breaking her wrist.
So there you go.
