Sleeping bag give-away

Hello Rioters

I have a high quality, used only once sleeping bag that would benefit a homeless person. Just wondering what the best way to approach this would be.

Should I drive around Tuggeranong or donate to SVdeP? Sleeping bag is designed for temp as low as 2C and has been dry cleaned recently.

Don’t want to get into a debate about offering permanent vs temporary comfort – I just want the sleeping bag to be put to better use than sitting in my spare room for another couple of years when there could be a person doing it rough who would really appreciate it.

Thanks Monomyth, I took your advice and was assured that the sleeping bag would go to a very worthy new owner.

I volunteer at a homeless mens shelter called Safe Shelter. They offer a warm place for up to 8 men to sleep indoors over the winter months, and are open Wednesday nights. They were donated some swags and some plastic sheeting from Bunnings. For health reasons (and just cause it’s nice) they let the men leave with the swags etc if they so wish.

They operate out of St Columba’s Uniting Church hall in Braddon – http://canberraregion.unitingchurch.org.au/church-details/st-columbas-congregation/

I’m sure they’d love it 🙂

Better than nothing !

This is a good idea.. I have an old sleeping bag that hasn’t been used in years. It’s a former navy issued sleeping bag so I think it’s for up to -5

keep us posted.

You could contact St John’s care, too:

stjohnscare@velocitynet.com.au Tel: 02 6248 7771

Probably best to contact first to see if they take sleeping bags. They are in Reid, so easy if you work in/are visiting Civic.

Great thought, Goddess.

Suggest you meet up with the guys at the Vinnies Night Patrol van any given night. You can find them outside the City Bus Interchange Maccas from about 8.00pm
