Smoke at the Film and Sound Archive

ACT Fire & Rescue are currently on scene at the National Film and Sound Archive, McCoy Circuit, Acton investigating a strong smell of smoke in an area of the building.

No sign of fire.

A partial evacuation is in place whilst crews investigate.

Three fire pumpers, the Hazardous Materials Unit, the Breathing Apparatus Van and a Commander on scene.

ACT Fire & Rescue are continuing to investigate the smell of smoke.

Still no sign of fire.

A full evacuation of the building is now in place as a precaution.

Update to follow.

Source of the smell of smoke has not been found.

ACT Fire & Rescue has conducted ventilation and air monitoring operations and will allow staff to return to the building shortly.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics have also been on scene supporting operations. Two patients were assessed and treated for eye irritation and no patients were taken to hospital.

Apparently there is a new exhibit going up about local film makers… must get in to see sets from ‘Tegan the Vegan’ and some bits and pieces from ‘Theatre of the Dead’. Now; I’m not saying that it is smoking hot, but…
