The ACT Emergency Services Agency has received calls from the public tonight concerned about the presence of smoke over Canberra at the moment.

The smoke is coming from bushfires in NSW.

There is no threat to the ACT from these fires. There are currently no fires in the ACT.

They should send hit squads around to the house of each person and have them eliminated. I mean how stupid do you have to be to ring emergency services just because there is smoke in the air. People with half a brain would know you don’t call them unless you can actually see fire.

Some people would need two mirrors, and possibly a smoke alarm, to find a fire in their immediate vicinty.

Some people couldn’t find a grassfire with both hands.

I don’t know if I prefer your reason and moderation in all things, or your compassion.

That sounds reasonable.

But seriously, I nominate you to be a judge here in the ACT. You can put your views into practice, and I can be satisfied that sentencing is finally tough enough, plugging the yawning gap from Refshauge and Higgins.

Fingers crossed Murrell goes bananas on the bench.
