Sneaky Defence unleashes the contractors of cull on Majura Training Area 'roos

Defence has announced that they’ve commenced shooting kangaroos at the over-populated Majura Training Area.

Canberra’s usual suspects are up in arms about this population reduction of a not-at-all endangered species.

My main beef is that they’re paying contractors rather than training snipers.

I don’t know, I don’t think sniper training includes gutting and skinning of their victims.

Plus I think snipers are trained to kill humans not kangaroos, so there would always be a chance of an accidental reflex shot at a hippie who is diligently trying to block their aim.

My best shot was around 470m head shot across a valley in Victoria on a Samba deer hunt but shot a roo on the way back for food haha.

470 meters, and a head shot…very impressive. Personally I would take a raking chest shot, if I even bothered, at that distance. What were you shooting and what sort of sight? Surely you must have had the rifle rested on something?

My main beef is that they’re not doing a thing about the rabbits and foxes which are in far greater number and do far more damage to the land.

Yep. The rabbits are back, with a vengeance, I’ve never seen so many.

Shauno, that’s a nice shot! What were you using?

Kangaroo is going to be real cheap at local butchers in the next few weeks.

Beef? No, that’s cows.

The whole concept of paying someone to fire a rifle on land which you frequently already pay people to fire rifles on is f’ing ridiculous.

agreed
