Snow season to extend

ABC is reporting that the ski resorts are to stay open another week.

Shame Perisher already closed down Blue Cow Tuesday last week. I was there the day before and it was in great condition, with Zali’s, Side Saddle and Pleasant Valley all holding well. Most of the staff I talked with were amazed that PB was closing down the mountain – especially with school holidays just started and good cold nights ideal for snow making. Money to be made and fun to be had.

So if you come late, you all get crowded onto the front valley.

Actually Perisher Blue has closed its entire operation for the season. Thredbo has one lift still open, the Crackenback Express, which runs all year. There will be limited skiing in the basin which is mostly suited to beginners only.

Really? Well, the Snowmakers are often kept on, in other jobs. Maybe they got smart, and got them breaking out to roll out the odd gun/jet.
Excelorator faces east and usually suffered the same fate as Smiggins, which is a shame. It is on their master plan for Snowmaking to link all the areas, and main runs.

They were making snow on Excelerator on 20 August.

Money. It’s all about money. And they don’t make snow once August starts. Money.
I’m surprised PV was holding, it usually goes quite fast. Smiggins looked like a disaster zone some weeks back, as did all of Thredbo. But yeah, the Blue Cow (Zalis/Side Saddle) cam looked very good.
