Snowy Ride carnage

The ABC reports on a staggering 3 motorcycle accidents in the wake of the Snowy Ride charity event.

The riders were part of a 3,000-strong contingent taking part in the Snowy Ride to raise funds for a children’s cancer charity.

A 37-year-old woman from Wollongong was found dead after her bike ran down an embankment near Bombala on Saturday.

Police believe she lost control on a sharp bend but her companions did not realise she was missing until they reached Bombala on Friday night.

A 57-year old man from Nowra also died south of Cooma when he hit a fence trying to avoid foxes on the road.

In an incident on Sunday, a 67-year old from Rosebud in Victoria died south of Eden on his way home.

Without wanting to pre-empt the coroner it might be a good idea to end the ride at a campsite (although any place that can sleep 3,000 is turning into a big piece of logistics).

Quality journalism from the CT…..it is now only two deaths linked to the Snowy Ride, same article, heading changed:

Its funny how the mainstream press are a bunch of sheep, when one newspaper sends out a shrill cry they all follow.

Very very sad, nobody leaves home expecting to die.

Motorcycle riders live with this every day but gather enough together enough times then the probability of serious incidents increases.

Condolences to the family and friends

Sad when you think about the intention of the event. I haven’t participated for three years now, but still have very pleasant memories of times up there doing the Snowy Ride.

The CT have said that the Police have investigated the three accidents and linked them to the Ride:

One of the newspapers was reporting that the Bombala incident wasn’t related to Snowy Ride.

One of the newspapers was reporting that the Bombala incident wasn’t related to Snowy Ride.

Some of the rideing I witnessed was very poor to say the least. Some folk seem to think its a race

Condolences to the families. As a rider recuperating from a bike-related busted ankle, I’ll be counting myself lucky tonight and keep my grizzling to a minimum.

“Without wanting to pre-empt the coroner it might be a good idea to end the ride at a campsite (although any place that can sleep 3,000 is turning into a big piece of logistics).”

Well, the ride ends at Thredbo, so I’m not really sure about the point of your conclusion? There are options for camping and other levels of accommodation.
