The ACT Liberals have achieved something today that they first attempted years ago, but at 1502hrs on Monday December 10 2007, the ACT Liberal Party had their first successful public implosion.

Richard Mulcahy has been given the boot, and is now to cross-bench as an independent MLA, as a sacrifice to the AHA Scandal.

Insightful.

Cameron responds by saying: Toughen up.
That’s so sliberal of you Cam.

Stop pimping for him Elvis, if the sad ex-sliberal wants to meet people and make new friends he should set up on Facebook or try RSVP.

Go shoot some feral pigs out at the Brindies. Sink a few. Shoot the breeze at Faniak and that little shit Smyth….Bonding session, boys !!!

Mulcahy is quite a good bloke – narrow minded bloggers should meet him.

Neocom responds by farting in the general direction of this supercilious sliberal spongeboy.

I know Dmac its a bit contradicive.

What I mean is I’m a Labor voter and intend to continue being so. I just wish Stanhope would F-off so I could vote for them locally because I as sure as hell won’t while that f-wit is there.

the amazing thing about all this is the Liberal MLAs do not actually give a f-ck about winning

all they care about is keeping their jobs cos they could not earn as much out in the big bad world (apart from, ironically, mulchay)

oh the irony of many competent people not bothering to consider running cos being an MLA does not pay enough

skinbladir- i also went to school with mulchays son, he was a top bloke then and is still one now…. i mightn’t agree with his politics but at least he’s not annonymously slagging off peoples families on the net

“The ACT Liberals could put 3 cats and a pot plant up as candidates at the next local election and I will still vote for them. (Stanhope makes my blood boil – yes I am a staunch Labor voter and always have been)”
can’t get stauncher then that…

I can not see what all the fuss is about:

Random spot of gossip:
I went to school with Mulcahy’s son and didn’t like any of Clan Mulcahy then but haven’t had much to do with them since.
I also don’t like Smyth who used to be one of our customers and had a tendency to talk down to us, and my old man went out with Corbell’s mum a great many moons ago.
My car also got hit (paintwork scratched and by a Channel Ten Political Correspondent Who Will Not Be Named when he was on his mobile phone.

Wasn’t Smyth the leader last election? And wasn’t that a bit of a flop? I remember some terrible commercials..

Stefaniak continues his retreat to fantasy land, saying the party can be turned around within six months, even though ABC has reported he has lost support as leader (so who is in charge\has a plan\has a clue\isn’t an incompetent, now that they also got rid of their shadow treasurer?) and several MLAs are worried they’ll lose their seats.

Anyone here a member of or associated with ACT Libs feel like offering anonymous insight or making an anonymous statement to allay any concerns people may have now that the local media are openly reporting that the Opposition is fatally broken?

Good riddance to Mulcahy: he looks dodgy and anyone who suggests reopening Garema Place to traffic is a tool anyway.

Mael, I hope Dave is a bit more media savvy than Wild Bill when it comes to using a mobile phone in front of a TV camera while driving????

Mælinar – the more I hear about your cat Dave, the more I think he’ll make a great opposition leader for the Liberals. If he has a good meow we can organise for him to leave 20,000 phone messages on election eve.

If this implosion continues the ACT Libs will soon become a black hole.

… or simply a museum?

Ingeegoodbee11:29 pm 11 Dec 07

What’s Dave’s position on the SIEV X memorial?

Dave’s looking good for my vote so far.

What are his policies? (If he is running a platform on human rights bills, gay marriage and care bear justice give him a kick for me).

You can have ‘Dave’ if you want him.

He’s a pure white american ragdoll, completely deaf and one blue eye and one green eye, aka he looks like David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, hence ‘Dave’.

And he is a hateful little cat.

Because he is deaf, he does things by touch. We have nothing on our shelves at home. The heaviest object I have seen him move was at least 2.5kg. He also aims, and has moved lighter objects out of the way so he could dump the sidelamp onto Mrs Maelinar’s head.

Because he is a longhair, I will still be finding cat hair in my clothing long after Dave departs. As an example Thumper is still finding Dave hair in his Anzac day suit, 3 years after he met Dave.

We have considered lending Dave out to childproof a house – aka anything 1m off the ground will be on the ground in the morning, shelf cleaning is just an extra bonus.

He also chases dogs, and has gone up to an alsatian. He beats up my west highland white and my slinky malinky black cat regularly just to let them know where they sit in the animal kingdom.

Purrfect for political life…

…and don’t get me started on Jacqui Burke. Just… ….. dont.

He he, it appears Mr Mulcahy has learned a thing or two about defending the indefensible from a certain Lord Conrad Black.

Ingeegoodbee4:07 pm 11 Dec 07

Go on then Mael, show us your pussy!

If I put my cat up for election, will I get more votes than Pru ?

They are just trying to keep pace with the Qld Liberals…

BeyondThought12:16 pm 11 Dec 07

I still find it bloody funny that Jacqui Burke thinks she is a contender for the leadership. Get a grip on reality!

Crikey: “I respect him from quitting the Smyth Liberals.”

Really? No matter the circumstances?

We need some good independents in the Assembly to provide some decent opposition to Labor so yep I’d vote for Mulcahy. I respect him from quitting the Smyth Liberals.

Maelinar: “Sepi – todays CT contains an interesting observation about the name of the press release, although they haven’t given any attribution to Cameron.”

Hmm – maybe the CT can pay RA the $500k johnboy was seeking? By way of compensation for this and every other RA sourced piece.

Neocom: “Vandam, this is the guy who sent out 17,000 pre-recorded phone messages to voters on the night before the last election.

I wouldn’t vote for him if he was the last politician on earth.”

So you won’t vote for a guy who campaigned (albeit in an irritating manner)?

Toughen up!

Ingeegoodbee9:34 am 11 Dec 07

“The ACT Liberals could put 3 cats and a pot plant up as candidates at the next local election and I will still vote for them.”

TAD, what kind of cats do you think they’ll put up? I like the idea but I’m a bit reluctant to support such a ticket without some understanding of the candidates.

Whould Big Bill be replaces with a fat tabby that has trouble squeezing through the cat door? I reckon that The Pratt would be a siamese, but Vicky Dunn would be the hardest to replace – you’d have to train the one of those wrinkly bald cats to walk backwards with lip-stick smeared across it’s coit …

Sepi – todays CT contains an interesting observation about the name of the press release, although they haven’t given any attribution to Cameron.

Since we all know where they source their news from…

So he is going to stand as an independent? Maybe he can consult with Trevor Kaine about and Helen Cross about how well that will go for him!

Vandam, this is the guy who sent out 17,000 pre-recorded phone messages to voters on the night before the last election.

I wouldn’t vote for him if he was the last politician on earth.

Vandam, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if what Mulcahy is ‘standing up to’ is a justifiable reaction to his self-important posturing and questionable activities from his past.

Well given that Mulcahy has stood up to the Liberal idiots. I’ll be inclined to vote for him next year! On WIN tonight he said he would stand as a independant.

Good on him for having a go at the Liberal Party. He has to deserve good reps for that. I can’t think of any other Liberal member that would do that.

It’s good to see the ACT liberals are keeping up with national trends.

Mulcahy has responded with: “I have reached the view over the period of time that it is not within the capability of the ACT Liberals to form an effective government in the ACT, either the current leader or any other.”

More on the ABC Website

Did anyone catch Win or ABC Local news? Anything interesting re: Mulcahy?

It will be interesting to see what the local news can come up with on this at such short notice.

And what’s your beef with the ‘morons’ boomacat?

Oh it makes me so happy to read further of the deepening demise of the so-called “Liberal” party, these morons deserve everything they get.

An opening for you Jonathon.

The CT, Libs, and probably Sonic have the benefit of knowledge re the contents of the transcripts of the case against Mulcahy, which he (Mulcahy) has succesfully managed to have suppressed.

Perhaps Stefaniak has acted in the best interests of the Party. Perhaps Mulcahy is up to his neck in something malodourous, which will only be revealed at a later date, long after todays action has taken place.

That said, Stefaniak still strikes me as more electable than any of the other contenders.

Crikey: “They undermine the only MLA (Mulcahy) with any ability and potential.”

I suspect the public perception may differ from the reality.

hmmmmn, funnily enough his webpage makes no reference to being a Liberal but his link to his pressers takes you to the ACT Liberal page – which is convenient there you can read about how united they are, against him…
http://www.richardmulcahy.com.au/about.htm

Why on earth would any sound person contemplate joining the Liberals, and especially seek preselection with them. You’d have to be a bloody idiot. On second thoughts, most of the Liberal MLAs are bloody idiots.

They undermine the only MLA (Mulcahy) with any ability and potential.

Cameron – it’s because they are a soccer team. Don’t show up for practice and you’re off the squad.

They work fast.

I think the current state of the opposition shows the value of independents/small parties in the assembly. Lets hope there are a few viable ones to vote for come next election.

I find it interesting that Bill’s release is called “Liberals United”…

The ACT Liberals could put 3 cats and a pot plant up as candidates at the next local election and I will still vote for them. (Stanhope makes my blood boil – yes I am a staunch Labor voter and always have been)

Here is a press release by Bill on the Canberra Liberals website.

http://canberraliberals.org.au/default.cfm?action=news_detail&ID=7767

At least things might be interesting for a bit!

It is any wonder there are Labor governments everywhere – the Liberals just implode and implode again in opposition.
