So what are they up to in the Ainslie parks?

Around a month ago the parks of Ainslie unexpectedly took delivery of loads of pipe, recently they’ve been joined by piles of gravel.

Today one of the crates was unpacked and all joined up but still no sign of what it’s there for.

Anyone with any ideas as to what’s going on?

My guess would also be sewerage/drainage pipes. In other State capitals recently, a lot of work has been happening to replace the main sewers built before Federation, as well as smaller ones of the same age. Of course Canberra’s are not that old but it’s probably better to replace them before they actually break down and/or cause problems like blockages.

Come on now, this is canberra, this must be secret squirrel business they might just be making bigger tubes for ICON. How else will the internet filter work?

They look like new 150mm Polyethylene sewer pipes.

They actually slipline them through the old pipes when replacing. Have they been digging any holes?

Have a look at the type of PE pipe it is and you will be able to tell what it is used for.

Chewy, that sounds exactly like what’s been happening in Gordon. You explained it a whole lot better than me though. And yes, there has been a lot of digging in Gordon (I have a particular interest in sewage pipes having had a rather major sewage problem in my street for some time now – I won’t bore you all with the gory details).

I’d put my money on replacement sewer pipes.

euww, what do they replace sewer with?

It’s not communications cables, they need to be laid in white conduit (there’s an Australian standard for this stuff. White for comms or extremely low voltage, orange for power, yellow for gas etc)

It’s been happening in Gordon too. My understanding is that they are relining sewage lines with some newfangled type of pipe. I may be way short of the mark though.

There’s a bunch of much larger concrete pipes being laid in Turner as well, around Boldrewood Street.

Just the council reminding us that they do stuff, I guess.

They are conduits for communication.

The good unionist workforce will dig them in then stuff things in them, and then we will all have another telco to complain about in regards to their off shore customer service centre and contractual arrangements.

Saw the same thing last year in O’Connor.

I think there was a comms/cabling company truck near the pipes on occaision, but can’t really remember back that far.

JB I thought that last time they put them down they were for storm water. They do like to make a hell of a mess though don’t they?

the misguided pipeline from the murrumbidgee river?

Perhaps it’s something to do with this:

Specifically:
“We have also commenced the deployment of FTTP to brownfield suburbs in the ACT, starting with a 1000-home retrofit, also using Alcatel and Corning fibre,” explained Slavich.
How does it feel to be living in a brownfield suburb?
They’ve dug up around Dixon Drive and Hindmarsh Drive in Holder too, laying pipe and pits, ready to fill with fibre.
Oo-errr, can’t wait… same trash but faster…

No idea about Ainsle either, but all throughout parts of Evatt (that I’ve seen) they’ve been laying mysterious pipes for a couple of weeks and I have been pestering my partner as to what they are, he is sick of me asking, when he is of course none the wiser. The ones here were white I thought though and no gravel. Who knows?
