Sogno D'Oro Belconnen - Restaurant Review

Just a quick whinge/warning………

Last Friday at lunchtime my better half and I decided to try Sogno D’Oro which was once Musica e’ in Belconnen.

I had relatively high hopes for this restaurant as I was a big fan of Musica e’ and regularly ate there.

Unfortunately my high hopes were immediately put to rest when our four slices of Italian bread came out ½ an hour after ordering. Ok I said to myself it’s only bread who cares.

Another ½ hour later came the gnocchi ordered by my partner. Count them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 pieces of gnocchi, 11 pieces of gnocchi for $16 in a piss weak sauce.

Then my pizza arrived. I’m not the biggest fan of cardboard based pizza and for $21

I could have bought 4 of those frozen McCain’s pizzas from the supermarket and would have had an easier time cutting and eating the base than I did with this pizza. The topping of the pizza was burnt and the cheese was like rubber.

My partner finished her meal in about 2 seconds and I managed to eat 4 of the 8 slices of pizza.
After paying I spoke to the manager of the restaurant to let him know that our meal was not satisfactory for the $65 we ended up paying. After his excuses he reluctantly offered a discount which I refused.

Has anyone else had any good or bad experiences eating at Sogno D’Oro?

I’m with you Zap. Thanks for the tip-off although I really don’t care one way or the other seeing as he chances of me dining in Belconnen are next to zero, but that said there’s something about a couple of quick sycophantic posts by clean-skin newbies that just leaves a bad taste … for mine, I’m just going to tell peoplethe place isn’t worth bothering about because the foods crap.

I’m guessing you are an employee, friend of the owner or even the owner himself?

You know what maybe you’re right, I think I was mistaken it was the best meal of my life!!!!

How could I be so stupid and think that cardboard pizza and a bowl of sauce with a few bits of gnocchi in it was a waste of money, I might go back to tonight and see if I can get some cannellini made from PVC pipe……. Yum yum yum.

Shove your poor excuse for a restaurant up your @rse.

hmmm you could at least get the name of the restaurant right, maybe that’s not the only thing u got wrong?

Foodlove, I possibly do want honest comment from the wider community of their experience. All you seen to have provided is an unsubstantiated claim to some level of industry expertise and a statement about having had a great experience.

If you would care to expand on either or both those points, you may find a more sympathetic audience.

This was OUR experience and no we are not connected with this place.

Call me a cynic…but a first post by a new user called “foodlove” which is a positive review in response to a bad one? Hmmmmmmm. “Straight-up” has a total of 1 comment posted also & both claim a long association with the Canberra food industry. Hmmmmmm.

We have had two great experiences at Sogno D’Oro Belconnen
and have recommended this place to others who have also said the same.

I have had a long assocaition with the food industry in Canberra
and can only say it’s ‘good quality food’ at a reasonable price.

Well, I have eaten at this place a few times and founfd the food to be great. I am not saying at all that you had a bad experience, however, I find the way you describe the manager’s responsecompletelydifferent to my experience.

I had one night where there was a mix-up with one of my tables meals and we recieved our breads and a bottle of wine free of charge and we didn’t even get a chance to raise the problem we had with our meal, it was just given to us.

I also find that the pizzas were very nice, I also liked the musica e pizza, and think these are right up there with the best I have had.

Now , I know that the pricing here is higher than some other places in the area, but i find the food lives up to the pricing (i have been in the food industry for some time so know a little about this matter.

It is a shame that you have had some bad experiences at this restaurant and I honestly think “if” you had spoken to the manager we had, you would have been looked after in a much more satisfactory way than what you describe.

Just my 2cents on my own experiences at this place (have been 4 times and enjoyed the food each time) for a very new place, I would say it’s still better than some other crap in the area and hope it only gets better.

I’d rather eat cardboard anywhere than anything at zeff’s – they have no concept of kitchen hygiene.

Seems like simple cost cutting in the Kitchen to maximise their profits. Sounds like they served you a frozen Pizza base and used cheap processed cheese. Certainly a formula to run a restaurant into the ground.

Thanks for the review. I thought the Pizza’s at Musica were pretty damn good. They were good value too on two for one pizza nights. I thought this place might be the same, but when I took a look at the menu, it wasn’t very appealing. Seemed to have all of Musicas crap dishes and none of their good ones. I hate pretentious restaurant names as well.

Yes – that place is horrible. I will never go back. For $21 you expect a pretty good gourmet pizza. The pizzas at Zeffs are classy compared to this crap!

The juice came out of a bottle. I think these days – if you are going to go to a restaurant – the least they can do is squeeze the juice?!

You would think that with citizen media outlets such as this that retail and hospitality outlets would have gotten their shiznitch together by now, th einternet is barely new… but still, people in these establishments seem to think that what happens on teh mile stays on the mile.

At least you gave them the opportunity to move to remedy before posting it online… Another place ill try with a grain of salt.

You should have reached into his chest and pulled his out still beating heart, and held it in front of his face so he could see how black it was before he died.

There is no excuse for committing crimes against Pizza.

Thats what I thought, the point of complaining is to make the bad value meal better value. Take the discount, then bag them out so they go broke and all their dreams are shattered.

Maybe in Belco but they still weren’t particularly good. I thought Musica E was overpriced for what, in my opinion, was average quality food (service was great though). Same view I have of its replacement – at least as far as the food is concerned – (Sogno D’Oro).

Well, I’m never going back!

I had exactly the same experience with the horrible pizza. The shame of it all is that the previous owners (when it was Musica E) made the *best* pizzas in Belco.
