Solar Panel installers in Canberra

By Genie - 20 August 2012 15

Riotact Hivemind, I’m getting with the times and going to install solar panels to help reduce my electricity bills.

Problem is – Solargain is currently the only provider I can find that installs in Canberra. There are plenty of companies that come up with a google search, but none of them service the Canberra region.

For those of you who have panels or are getting them installed – do you have any alternative recommendations ??

Aside from Solargain – who else is there in Canberra? I would really like to receive more than 1 quote before I go ahead with my purchase.

What’s Your opinion?

I’m still waiting to have my 5kW system commissioned by ACTEW. They claim they have no record of my installation by Solargain and Solargain don’t seem interested in helping me, emails are simply ignored.

Reporting back as promised.

Solarhub installed our 5kW system – 20 panels by Canadian Solar and an SMA inverter. They were professional to the fingertips from the start. They analysed our usage patterns, gave us a good range of options and prices together with a recommendation, which we accepted. The installation all happened as promised and we’ve now been connected to the grid for a few days.

The online monitoring system, which was activated yesterday, is fabulous. Yesterday we generated almost twice what we used. 🙂 That won’t happen often of course, particularly during hot or cold days, but it’s quite a blast to see it, even for a day.

I’m very happy to give Solarhub big ticks all round.

cost of your 5kw system?

Make sure that the company (and/or individual) you are using are licensed electricians in the ACT through the ACT Planning and Land Authority – http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/topics/hiring_licensing/find_professional/list

Just made an appointment for Solarhub to come and chat. Thanks for the info, folks. I’ll report back.

I had Todae Solar do a 5kw install. They are Sydney based but a guy came on site before quoting. The sparky they used was good and it was approved first time. At the time they were the cheapest when I got quotes.

How do you trust someone who can’t spell ‘today’?

SolarHub is the way to go, had 4 quality installation done by them, very professional and all the paper work for ACTPLA and ActewAGL are done by them.
Call Jessica on 0437 015 819 and mention Kevin.

I wouldn’t use Harvey Norman as their ads show they don’t understand the difference between kW and kWh. I’ve heard Powersmart do a good job, 02 6188 4404. Avoiding shade and minimising cable runs may be more important than yr aesthetic preferences.

Have already contacted SolarHart.. Unfortunately they only do small systems (1.5kw and under) and were able to help.

I’ll be contacting Armada Solar and SolarHub for a quote.

Armada Solar

I can recommend without any hesitation Armada Solar as a solid, reputable, Canberra-based company. They installed a 2 KW system at my home some 4 years ago that has been problem free, have done repeated system checkups as part of their follow-up policy, and gave me last year some very useful advice on possibilities for an additional system.

Solarhub

I contacted 4 companies for quotes. Two of them wouldn’t come on site to quote. They just used google images to come up with a price and weren’t at all interested in my specific preferences for placement of the panels and inverter. I just got the impression that these guys were just in it for a quick buck. Another supplier was booked in to come on site to quote but just didn’t turn up and was never heard from again.

So I ended up going with Solarhub. They came over and looked at my roof, discussed all my options and gave me advice. Their quote was in the same ballpark as the two google image guys but Solarhub also do all the liaison work with ACTPLA and ACTEW and this is included in the quote. Everything was done by them so it was an easy process for me. They use quality materials and the workmanship is of a good standard. No roof leaks or other problems. The other bonus is that the power generation estimates provided by Solarhub appear to be accurate and are not exaggerated.
