Solicitors familiar with Ownplace House and Land Packages in Canberra?

My number came up in the top 100 in the upcoming Ownplace ballot, and I will attend the ballot draw on Friday 21 October. If I am successful there, I’ll need a solicitor to help me with the purchase of the house and land package.

Just wondering if any of you have bought your place through this scheme, and if so, are there any solicitors which you can recommend to help me with this? I would prefer a solicitor who has experience with the Ownplace process. Two more questions, where is the solicitor based, and how much (approximately) did they charge you for this service? I would prefer a solicitor in Civic…

Reason I’m asking so far in advance is that I may be away from Canberra the fortnight after the ballot draw – so would prefer to have a solicitor organised beforehand, as opposed to running around frantically at the very last minute.

how is the ownplace process any different to a normal property purchase – that is, once you are successful in acquiring the offer through the ballot process (which the solicitor would have nothing to do with?)?

$1200 seems pretty high to be for what sounds like a straight forward purchase – but then again it’s been years since i bought a place. i would have thought under a grand for the legal fees surely, given you are buying off the government.

I bought through OwnPlace a while ago and used O’Connor Harris in Civic for my conveyancing. They were fairly up to speed on the process and cost about $1200 I think.
