Solid wood interior sliding door fitted in Canberra

By MsK8 - 13 October 2014 4

Hi all,

Looking at getting a interior sliding door fitted that is solid wood as our current one is a cheap hollow construction and the room in question will be used for a baby.

Has anyone used a door company in Canberra (apart from doors plus) that has done something similar?

What’s Your opinion?

Ryleho in Queanbeyan make customised cedar doors.

They’re also not that much better at keeping noise out unless you plan to upgrade the whole frame and mechanism and good seals around the whole thing.

You don’t need to get a door company as such. The doors you probably mean are made of MDF and are called “solid core”. Available at the big hardwares and the various independent “builders suppliers”. Any builder or carpenter, and many handymapeoplpersons, can fit it. It will need four-wheel carriages (rollers on top) matched to the existing track – which is probably either Corinthian or Hume Doors.
SC doors are heavy, and they do present one risk – they can have real momentum if closed with a swift pull, and any little fingers inadvertently on the jamb will get very squished.

Check out the show room at Organised Interiors, 76 Shephard Street Hume.
They have one display with a magnificent sliding solid wood door.
Doors Plus promises a lot but delivers little. Once they have your money the shutters come down.
