Some more context on the Fitters' Workshop deal

We’ve had the below in which we thought was worth sharing:

Readers may like to check out Chris Wallace’s article in this Saturday’s Canberra Times Panorama. Although she doesn’t make it clear, it would seem her venom is directed to the vote in Thursday’s Legislative Assembly, where the Liberals and Greens combined to direct the Government to act on the recommendations of the Inquiry into the Future Use of the Fitters’ Workshop.
Then go to the Megalo website and see who their Board members are: is one of them this same Chris Wallace?

And if people are in the mood for further research, they could also go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_Wallace. Having digested that, follow the link to Michael Costello.

If the Chis Wallace on the Megalo board is the same as the Canberra Times columnist, and also is so closely connected to the Labor Party, what’s happened to the journalistic ethics that would require her to identify her interests in regard to both Megalo and her attack on Vicki Dunne (Liberal and Shadow Arts Minister) and Caroline Le Couteur (ACT Greens Spokesperson for Arts and Heritage)?

Helen Moore

Immediate Past President

It’s worth keeping in mind that worm excretion will always be more useful than whatever the result will be of this drag-queen slapping match.

toe2toe: you are vicious!

Thanks to all concerned for further validating my decision not to care about this issue.

That’s a whole f-ing heap more than a lot of scientific and medical research and support groups get who do a whole lot more for society than a punch of ink inhaling former hippies.

Wow c_c, you are one angry lady. I can call you Helen can’t I? Am I right? I thought this site was moderated, your language and sentiments are quite toxic yerself.

Well it is pretty funny isn’t it, I have to agree with you there. I think the only former hippy involved in this cat fight is Caroline Le Couteur – not sure how ‘former she is though’, why she keeps pushing for a multipurpose space? Idea straight out of the peace lov’n 60s. They didn’t work then so I don’t know how she and her sidekick Vicki Dunne imagine how that waste of space is going to work now. Smokin’ too much weed I’d say, at least that’s what CLC’s advisers are notorious for! Probably the only thing green about them.

And just to keep you up to speed, I think you’ll find printmakers don’t inhale toxic ink these days darl, its all organic. Not like us painters, still on the turps. And I’m telling you, the last time I went to Megalo (last week) they all seemed pretty young, groovey and sexy to me. Can’t speak for the boys, but they were young.

I’m not sure what you propose that aging choral choristers do for society though? F-ing boring. I went along to one of your sing-alongs at the Fitters with me old mum (she used to sing with you all when the choir scene was a bit more down and dirty swing’n Anglican in the 70s – Chris Latham’s dad’ll remember those days!) I fell asleep and she missed most of the gig trying to find a toilet. I don’t know why anyone is making a fuss about that stupid Fitters Workshop anyhow, its a miserable dump. Give people piles sitting in there in the cold listening to you lot hollowing away. Best thing you could do for society is donate your bodies to science. Won’t be long now.

Actually, my mum got one of ‘Helen Moore’s’ emails, she forwarded it to me for a laugh. it’s the one you sent to your cronies along with Caroline Le Couteur and Vicki Dunne, giving them the heads up and a few more about your court case with ol’ Donnie Boy. Should find it, send it to the riot act for a bit fun!

Context indeed. Helen Moore hasn’t disclosed her friendship with Vicki Dunne MLA, so close they embraced and kissed each other after Dunne got her motion passed in the assembly to block poor Megalo. And what does the ANU music school think of Moore’s position? Not much from all accounts, they would prefer it if everyone got behind saving their program, like Megalo is. Ie: not fighting for a dead end space only good for amateur choral choirs and octogenarian composers to go to sleep in the sun..

Yes, Megalo sure is behind the School of Music. If behind, you mean copyright infringement and lazy plagiarism. All they did was photocopy the cover art for the film “The Sound of Music” and change a few of the words.

Is it humorous, yes. Is it printmaking rather than something any High Schooler could have knocked up in Gimp – no way.

And what’s this about “poor Megalo” – They have their own premises at the moment, a lively though small membership and receive government support.

That’s a whole f-ing heap more than a lot of scientific and medical research and support groups get who do a whole lot more for society than a punch of ink inhaling former hippies.

Well, there’s a surprise. Someone close to the ruling party (currently the ALP) is on the board of a group that gets something out of the ruling party, to the detriment of other groups and possibly the building they will occupy (if today’s letter to the editor in the CT is to be believed).

It really is the best argument for kicking out the ruling party every now and again – regardless of what their name is. Corruption is everywhere, and at least the other side gets to have a turn.

Of course, if you were at all idealistic, you would be horrified and want the system cleaned up so neither side can rort it.

Helen Moore hasn’t mentioned either that Don Aitkin is the man pulling her strings. She’s not bright enough to be pushing this on her own but she’s the perfect puppet. Aitkin is the immediate past president for the National Capital Authority – a serious conflict of interest – so he won’t be seen getting his hands dirty in this kind of public fray, but this whole issue is close to his bulling heart, Liberal leanings and is also behind the DA in court about the Fitters Workshop.

Interestingly Moore didn’t share this gem. I just did a quick Megalo board check and found to my surprise that Rosanna Hindmarsh is also on the Megalo board. She and her husband are the main sponsors for the International Music Festival. I doubt very much the Hindmarsh’s vote Labor or Green, so its not all biased is it Helen!

And if you’re wondering, I’m not a printmaker, I’m a painter and until recently, voted Green.

Well well well. Thanks for the info.

If I’m not mistake, Ms Wallace may have also previously studied at the Printmedia and Drawing workshop at the School of Art – so I can’t see any possible clash of interest in anything she says…….

Christine Wallace is also the editor of “Breakfast Politics”, which has been pro-Megalo throughout and published this piece of tripe early on: http://www.breakfastpolitics.com/index/the-annotated-fitters-workshop-petition.html

Uncredited, of course, but I thought at the time that anyone allowing this to be published needed to question their notions of “journalism”.

I should disclose that I am the Musical Director of SCUNA and conducted the protest sing at the LA on Thursday.
