ACT Policing is appealing for witnesses to a burglary in Manuka where a number of Apple iMac desktop computers were stolen.

Sometime between 6.30pm last night (Sunday, November 10) and 7.30am this morning (Monday, November 11), a business located on Bougainville Street, Manuka, was broken into and seven white Apple iMac computers were stolen.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity during this time on Bougainville Street and may be able to assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Police urge members of the public and local businesses who may be approached to purchase this stolen property to contact Crime Stoppers and provide as much detail as possible.

ACT Policing would offer a reminder that knowingly purchasing stolen property is a serious criminal offence.

Those are aluminum. Aluminum is not white.

That went well.

What would you expect when you position yourself on boganville st.

I’m surprised they’re still calling it that. In today’s Daily Telegraph is a picture of Greg Chappell under a signpost for the newly named Greg Chappell St in Brisbane, formerly Bogan St. Interestingly under that sign is another sign pointing to the Alan Border Fields. It never would have happened in Canberra where you have to be dead to have anything named after you.

Who would want to buy an old white iMac? That would be like buying a Pentium 4 computer these days. Good luck to the thieves palming those off.

If the owners have set the security right on these units, it’ll prove useless to anyone else. A bit like stealing a brick.

Only way to make it difficult for a thief is to activate the firmware password, and even then there’s ways to get past it. Anything less than that and a $2 suction cup and a cheap 2.5 hard disk can dispose of any security. But even for that relatively minimal expense, you’d have to wonder what anyone wanted with white iMacs, haven’t made them since 2007.
