If it fits, why not?

Felix the Cat9:55 pm 10 May 07

I think the Smart parking is just an advert (viral marketing) for that car. Last week there was one (coincidently the same colour) parked the same way outside the Mercedes dealer in Collie St Fyshwick.

Wondered where you were, Thumps. Watching County cricket?

The non-redheaded people are merely insecure and jealous.

Heavs what do you have against people with red hair… its just a hair colour?

Ant – some of us don’t have the option, and just got shafted out there.
I’ve been there since june 06, and it’s not THAT bad. i save money caus ei can’t go ospend it at lunch time..

Ant back from skiing with the Mormons I see.

However, my point is, what gives a parking inspector at BBP the right to book cars?

I quite simply wouldn’t work at BBP, because of the parking debacle and the mobile car park that is the roads to and from at rush hour. Charging city prices to park in a PADDOCK… fark, Queanbeyan could use the same justification, except they actually want people to come there.

nah, this happened a while ago

Intriguing, maybe that’s why i haven’t seen him for a few days – stress leave, perhaps? Good riddance.

and a couple of building contractors already got fired for throwing shit at him, or so the gossip mill tells me

fnaah, i’ve been pretty lucky too.
He has a mean streak for one of my colleagues though…
i’ve played the lottery successfully enough that I feel it’s ok to skip a month every now and then..
if i get caught, it just means thats a month of parking, so i’m more inclined to skip the next month..

C’mon, what else do you expect a ginger to do. Nobody wants them working in a real job. Outside away from the rest of us is the best place for them. Don’t underestimate the ginger menace.

quote “to bring them more in line with prices in the city” : what is funnier is that BBP is NOT in the city so what relevance does this sort of comparison have ?

That bloodnut parking inspector is a goddamn menace. He takes his job far too seriously, and should be strung up on a flagpole via his bootlaces so that people can throw things at him at lunchtime.

Although, he hasn’t booked me – yet. (I play the 1-hour ticket lottery about twice a week.)

And the reason so many people park at russell to catch the airport bus, is cause the parking is stupid out here.
they recently raised the prices, quote “to bring them more in line with prices in the city”
Despite the fact that, in the city, they offer 3-for-free, which CAG have specifically said they will NOT do, as “the prices are lower than the city already, we do not feel this is necessary”
And despite the services available out here not being any near in line with the city.

(not to mention the gridlock during peak hour, the constant works on the car parks that made it impossible to find a park at 11am..)

and the red-headed parking inspector..

i will note, that that stupid little car, or one like it, was parked uot at brindabella today, in a specifically marked-off car park (ie, a line across the end that’s normally open)

i’m almost certain he’ll be ticketed for parking outside designated car spaces..

seepi, incorrect. The DEWR shuttle was canned over a year ago.
The Department just subsidises costs on the Airport shuttle, so employees don’t have to pay.

In fact, someone should send that image to the smartcar website, they’d love that kida of thing.

Haha, good for them. All you miserable sods complaining should chill out. Very unAustralian of you 😉

The DEWR shuttle is the same bus as the Deanes airport express thingy which stops in Russell, there’s always a couple of people who jump on there.

Those smart dinkie toys are as gay as recumbent bicycles

The Smart would have been able to park properly if the two idiots in the Excels didn’t need so much room.

seepi – which department runs it’s own bus ? (Apart from the Defence shuttle)

“the only place I’ve seen with more illegal parking is that privately owned carpark in Barton…. ”
If that’s the car-park near the ottoman/affa it is one of the crazier places to park I’ve seen. Once your car is in there it’s pretty much stuck until 5.

AQIS/AFFA/Biosecurity are going to be in for such a shock when their offices move from the free parking in barton to their new building across from the Police Station in Civic 🙂

I think its a cleaver way to park. There arent any lines marked on the roads, so you can prob almost guarantee that on a daily basis if people parked properly most cars would fit.

Russell has become unofficial (and free) Park N Ride for the airport offices.

Heard on the radio this arvo that Brand Depot is now offering park n ride services. Free for now – but will eventually charge for the bus only. However i believe it is only into the City. Sounds like a good idea.. they have plenty of parking spaces out there – seems logical for those who live out that way.

But then we wont get to laugh at the clever buggers driving smart cars and their parking efforts!?!?!

I crack up laughing whenever I see one of those Smart 2-for thingies that look like phone booths. Although I do very much like their convertible Smart. I wish they were a tad cheaper though; the engines are tiny.

One department runs their own bus.

Russell has become unofficial (and free) Park N Ride for the airport offices.

Except that there is no Action bus service to the Airport and the Transborder service would actually cost more than the parking charge at the Airport.
You could get the Defence shuttle but it takes nearly an hour to meander over to the Brindabella Park.

That road is so wide it should be re-zoned for angle parking.

On both sides.

hahaha… that is awesome.

That road is about wide enough for 1 lane of parking and 4 lanes of traffice – it is a fairly quiet 2 lane road. I dont’ see how that car sticking out a tiny bit is going to impede anyone’s driving. It probably sticks out less that an F100 or something would, if parked normally. If you were driving around for hours looking for a park and that thing was taking up a a whole spot you would be thinking differently.

I know I said we should drive smaller cars, but I draw the line at driving a glorified European shopping trolley.

J Dawg, too right. Book Mr Trendy. And listen joeyjo, I know there meant to park like that. But park it somewhere where their not blocking others and sticking out on to the road. Smart4Twos might be able to do that in Paris and Berlin, but not here.

“Park legally like every other person has to.”

You’ve obviously never worked in Russell – the only place I’ve seen with more illegal parking is that privately owned carpark in Barton….

At least the smart car can park in such cramped quarters. It’s really just a 2 seater motorbike after all.

It is yet another airport problem. Russel has become unofficial (and free) Park N Ride for the airport offices.

The smart car was designed to be able to park that way. Why should they get booked? Good on them!

When are they going to fix the parking situation in Russell anyway?

I think the driver is a twat. Hope they get booked.

I think it is great! Anything that saves a bit of space.

That street is so wide and empty – why don’t they just do nose to gutter parking down one side?

under chief minister bonfire this woudl be legal.

as long as it wasnt in the electric car bays id have installed in all major parking areas.

plug your car in while you work.

I had a friend that drove a MightyBoy, the worlds smallest and perhaps stupidest ute. We used to (4 of us) pick it up an place against walls, between other cars etc.

Absent Diane4:18 pm 03 May 07

its still sticking out a fair bit…

Oooh, look how cranky and jealous you get when somebody does something that you can’t 😉

that’s lame.
Just cause you choose to drive a stupid, small, ugly car, with a lame name, doesn’t give yo special parking priveliges. Park legally like every other person has to.
I sincerely hope they get booked.

Well f-off back to Europe then 🙂

In Europe that is the normal way to park a Smart.

CraigFromCurtin3:57 pm 03 May 07

Yes they would be issued with a parking infringement notice because they are not parked parallel to the kerb. As a side note, people who park in the street but facing the wrong direction (we’ve all seen these) can also be booked – for parking too far away from the kerb!

I believe you can be ticketed for parking in the wrong direction, so it’s likely this could be ‘ticketable’ as well.

“indicating”

There seems to be a sign up on the light pole, maybe it is indicagtion that you can only park on one side of it.
I wonder if this person would get a ticket if a cop came past? anyone know?

Pity the person behind trying to get out…

Hahaha, that is classic.

classic, well done to the driver, that saved at least a twenty meter walk from the end of the line!
