A huge chunk of Northbourne Avenue opposite the Dickson Shops is covered in blue tape at the moment and a very large number of police vehicles are in attendance with the constabulary taking copious notes and talking to a lot of people.

Local residents across the road were out watching the show but when asked what had taken place replied “I don’t know and I don’t care”.

More on this as it comes to hand.

UPDATED: ABC radio news is reporting a stabbing after an altercation between two men.

ANOTHER UPDATE: The Canberra Times has a lengthy report with the implication a 42 year old man might have been stabbed by a 29 year old woman. The ABC story has a link to some video.

FURTHER UPDATE: The police have now issued not one, but two media releases. The first simply details the time of the stabbing and calls for witnesses. The second says a 29 year old woman has been charged with “intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place”.

Yet Another Update: The police have updated the charges they’re now: “intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm and using an offensive weapon”

You’re my new best friend Granny!

Not for any reason in particular…stop looking at me like that…I gave up, I swear!

Seriously though, Big Dave, weed isn’t in the same vein (no pun intended) as Ice or heroin. Compare the amount of people who smoke it casually, and those who are addicted. Then make a comparison with Heroin and Ice.

Pot CAN ruin some lives, but then again, so can the bloody internet!

Kickass Dexi!!!

Starscream.. “Houso scumbags, These type of people do not deserve what they are given and should all be locked up or killed. They add absolutely nothing to society, take our tax money and cause nothing but trouble.

It’s so easy to attack the weak, vulnerable targets. Government housing is for people that, for what ever reason, will never be able to acquire a home. It’s a simple affair, where our difficult, sick, and poor are side stepped. They are provided a basic living environment. Saying they don’t contribute to our society only makes them neutral. Houso scum didn’t bring you this recession. Houso scum haven’t closed businesses or robbed the elderly of their income. Rampant development and greed has. Houso scum haven’t created scum pools of our rivers, wastelands of our forests or poisoned our oceans on an industrial scale. Houso scums haven’t consumed a disproportionate amount of resources per person as you may have. Houso scum, are a very small reflection, of how we as a society live on this planet. Who are the real lunatics, junkies and criminals? For the cause of society’s troubles, you might like to look in the mirror. Your comments have the stench of a scapegoat.

Hi dexi

Thats exactly what it is, but there is a new ice on the streets of Canberra (much worse) then the other, if thats possible, don’t you guys read the Canberra Times, I know most of the time their full of bullshit and like to make a story sensational by connecting another story to it!
I hope they catch the scumbags who are making it.

There should be a government funded hose program for pot smokers.

DJ Pot smokers just need reassurance that they have a real drug habit with major druggie issues. Its probably just a short term memory thing.

was there another incident there on Saturday arvo? Saw around half a dozen plods heading that way.

Deadmandrinking said :

Starscream, that’s a major generalization, mate. I’ve known people who’ve lived in flats that are classed as junkie flats because of the cheap rent. None of them were major druggies (well, maybe they smoked a bit of pot, but that’s not real drug use). Not all pensioners will get a house if they want one, pensioners includes people with disabilities and mental health issues.

As always a stupid comment relating to drug use. What would “real” drug use be or is it how the drug is administered?

Seems to me it’s a mistake to “ghetto-ize” people with social problems. Better to sprinkle them through the rest of the community, in amongst well-adjusted (lucky) people demonstrating how to live well, rather than make their own anti-social behaviour seem normal by surrounding them with other people with problems.

i reckon you have a point mate i can remember baringa gardens at melba when i was a young bloke….an absolute disaster area but when the government demolished the joint they just started congregating these people in smaller groups at other complexes throughout canberra…….BIG MISTAKE

he’s goin alright and got a bit of a giggle out of your previous post…

Deadmandrinking1:03 pm 15 Nov 08

Good point, but a good deal of these people find themselves so far down the line that’s it’s extremely difficult to change even if they want to. Perhaps we should be looking at ways you can sever the bonds lives of heavy drug-use tend to snare people by.

They need to want to change first. You cant force them to be good people.

Deadmandrinking12:46 pm 15 Nov 08

How will you know they’re cared for?

Why not attempt to change the conditions and lives of the original parents? Why leave them to produce for others to raise?

Im not talking about foster care, im talkign about before it gets to that. Take the kids after they are born and adopt them to a couple who cant have kids or something sad like that. Then you know they will be cared for.

How do you think the kids are going to turn out anyways? junkies and criminals for parents?

Deadmandrinking12:37 pm 15 Nov 08

Then you’re going to have to deal with all the problems with foster care. All too many times you’ll see someone before the courts with a string of violent crimes and a history of abuse in foster care…

I disagree. I think the children should be taken off the scumbags and addopted out to someone who would actually care for and love them.

Deadmandrinking12:25 pm 15 Nov 08

Well, wouldn’t the state of the children make you want to maybe help the parents and potential parents improve their positions by getting off the drugs? It can be a long shot…but I’d say you’re closer than you would be if you demolished their homes.

The fact that people with mental disabilites are housed there is true and its disgusting that the government has no where to actually treat these people properly.

Of course there are always exceptioons to the rule, but the majority of people in these type of flats are human waste.

The most horrible and heart breaking thing is the state of some of the children there.

Deadmandrinking12:18 pm 15 Nov 08

Yes, let’s make everyone who lives in cheap housing homeless. That will reduce the crime rate.

These particular flats are a blight on Canberra. Demolish them and destroy the ghetto. The land could be much better employed as a modern unit complex. Space #24 anyone?

Deadmandrinking12:15 pm 15 Nov 08

Kind of hard to focus when you have to keep a eye on your gear constantly so that it does not go missing. Students and immigrants go to the currong flats all together and the scums are not housed there. Single mothers and pensioners will get a house if they want one. The people that live in these junkie flats all want to live there becuase of easy acces to drugs.

Deadmandrinking11:58 am 15 Nov 08

You think you might have been focusing on your work rather than assessing whether the occupants of these apartment complexes might be drawn to cheap rent for other reasons? What about new immigrants, students, single-mothers, people on pensions?

Not everyone in government housing, but a large percentage of people in the government flats are. Dont talk to me about reality, dmd, i used to do lots of electrical work on the places, they are filled to the brim with scumbags that will never add anything to society.
I could not care less if they all died.

Deadmandrinking11:44 am 15 Nov 08

Not everyone in government housing is a junkie, I was surprised to find when I experimented with something called reality.

Can we also bulldoze the homes of the scumbags at the top end of town. Scumdozing.

Time for the bulldozers to get rid of this ghetto.

You cant spoil government sponsored holidays for criminals buy sending all the junkies and lunatics to the resort. They worked long and hard at their criminal endeavors. They deserve a decent break.

Not long ago i was at stuart flats on buisness and a copper pulled up a few bl0cks down from the one i was working at, people started walking down and a old lady was walking up to them telling them not to bring drugs down becuase the police was doing a searxh warrent, then the group of people walked down and started yelling abuse at the copper. I have no idea why he did not arrest them.

that’s gold dexi, i’ll print it out and take it up to the hospital later to show old mate.

This thread brought back some fond memories. I thought the kiddies might like some pointers on how to handle the Ice Queen in there lives.

Ice Queen guidelines, for the man of the house.

-Don’t keep knives or sharp scissors in your house. Drive them to another suburb and dump them in a random bin. It helps if you steal her knives as well. Always know where the knives are. Note: This is very important.

-There will be blood. If you don’t follow the point below, it may be yours. If it’s hers it will be smeared all over the living room. Use cold water to clean it up. Self inflicted wounds usually aren’t very deep. If you don’t have sterile water, wash them under the tap.

-Always know where your shoes, wallet and car keys are. Keep them together, you might only get a small window of opportunity to leave the house.

-When she storms out, run, she will be back in 5min. You won’t want to be there. See above. Note: Leaving does leave you open to some of the points below.

-Don’t get attached to your stuff. Her mates will steal most of it when you’re out, because you’re an asshole. You will always have it coming. Note: What cost you $500, say a GPS, will be sold for a point of ice($50). This may still be a better deal than Cash Converters where you might only get $20.

-If you end up with nothing it’s because the ice dealers has it all. He may sell some of it back to you. Your Ice Queen will offer to broker the deal. Don’t play this game. She will be double dipping. The above example costing you $300.

-What remains will be smashed up. This includes your prized possession her mates didn’t nick.

-All your photos will be torn up.

-Crockery/glassware, mobile phones, will all make holes in your wall. This includes anything you have given her that can be thrown. Develop you plastering skills.

-Buying new phones, cameras and computers is only supporting foreign multinationals and making more holes in the walls. She can replace them herself cheaper from her drug buddies.

– Develop your locksmith skills. You will end up with a box full of old locks in the cupboard. Go to any hardware store and buy the cheap ones. Eventually you will have to replace the front door when it’s been kicked enough. As doors are expensive small hole can be ignored. As a side note you might notice the ice dealer has a similar door with multiple locks, full of kick hole and ‘c### dog’ sprayed across it.

-Your neighbors will know you’re an asshole, amongst other things, because she would have screamed it from the front yard at 2am.

-She knows the value of your secrets. Expect your mother and all your friends to know them too, because you’re an asshole and had it coming.

-Your old friends will think you’re an asshole.

-Your new friends are her drug buddies. They will also think you’re an asshole.

-Any money she gets or you give her will only go to her drug buddies via the ice dealer. She will be back when the drugs run out.

-When the paranoia kicks in, you will find many helpful sites on the internet for Mobile SIM coping and computer forensics. Remember your being a suspicious asshole. She’s not F###### the ice dealer because ice makes male genital bits shrivel and are useless.

-You will never know what is true. Finding out makes you a stalker. This need to know will repeatedly lead you to the top of this page. This will only become worse when you turn to drugs.

-If she doesn’t come back in a couple of days don’t worry. She will TXT you eventually, needing to be pick her up from the hospital or a brothel, because half her body has gone numb or someone got stabbed or someone nicked all her stuff etc, etc. She will have a different mobile phone and clothes. She will sleep for 3 days. On the forth day go to the top of this page and work your way down, again.

-If you persist in the relationship you will become a, violent, woman beating, emotionally crippled, fearful, paranoid, mental case and on drugs. Don’t expect her to share though. She’s already got her drug buddies.

-At this point as the ice dealer already has all your stuff you might like to consider crime. Lucky you dumped the knives. Your new friends will be able to help.

-If crime is not an option, then you need to pack what you have left, change your mobile number and move interstate. This takes planning as you may only have 5min before she comes back and stabs you or smashes the car. This may take several attempts and mobile phone numbers. Get a bulk pack of Voda sim’s from Woolies..

-Remember she will keep coming back. She loves you. This will be written in a hundred TXT messages. Some with pictures of her breast. Don’t be fooled the ice dealer took the photos.

-Ice queens are not always wrong, if you stay, you’re an asshole and you have it coming.

They would have sold the gun for a point ages ago. Everyone has steak knives, they come with a free set for stabbing.

now there is a very valid point!!!

Eyeball In A Quart Jar Of Snot1:56 am 15 Nov 08

There wouldn’t be so many stabbings if we all had guns.

no problem johnboy…..just wish I had a bit more faith in the ACT legal system to be honest……

Let’s lave anything further to the courts my friends.

no he didn’t but i will tell you what that skank has coming to her……a nice long jail term….and it was good to see that she was remanded in custody…she is a lunatic (and has the paperwork to prove it) and should never be allowed on a public street again…..

He had it coming to him

yea he’s a bogan alright…one of my mates in fact…he is very lucky as it turns out that his heart was pierced by the knife but after surgery and being put into an induced coma last night he is on the mend and should be out of hospital shortly…..he is now out of intensive care

i love that the victim sat down in the gutter to have a ciggie – wasn’t he stabbed in the chest? i wonder if smoke came out of the stab wound?

more excellent candidates for bogan idol – def leppard fans, you have some stiff competition here!

blood droplets… thank you CSI 😉

When we drove past at about 7 there was about 30 little numbered markers set out along the footpath, curving around into the the complex after a while. Make with it what you will.

Found this in the Canberra Times (online)

“I opened the gate and saw him sitting there holding his stomach and it was pouring out with blood.”
Another neighbour said she saw the victim sitting on the street near the Lyneham Flats complex waiting for an ambulance and smoking a cigarette.”

Well, he’s tough 🙂

deezagood,

Hello, nothing appears to be happening any different in Canberra the only difference is the public is hearing about them all nowadays, going back many years all these types of crimes were occuring and have been for many years. It is the Nationals capital and now things are starting to hit the frontline news no longer covered up.

Another sad story that has recently hit the headlines in the ACT.

I reckon it’s ice. Seriously, the stuff is completely ****** and addicts who were previously sedated at home are instead running amuck on the streets looking for something to do/steal/stab.

Thanks ‘War on Drugs’.

It was still a temporary police station when I drove past about 9pm. Ah the internetz is great, answers for the curious minds when you want it.

The TV cameraman gets a brownie point for getting a very good close up of (the?) a knife which may have been involved. Geez, home grown CSI.

I’m not so sure shinyflu – seems to be happening in a wide variety of Canberra ‘burbs.

I think that it’s possibly just an issue in the lower-socio-economic section of Canberra’s society… but to grossly stereotype: words aren’t as immediate as actions.

My Dad told me it wasn’t right to take photos of car crashes. He didn’t mention stabbing though.

I did have to go down and get the photos myself.

Someone called me to say there was a problem around there and I was like – yehhh I’m gonna run over there and get some photos into images@the-riotact.com as quick as I could – but then I stepped outside and was like meh – it’s too hot, in no time this will be on the net for me to see at the comfort of my work chair!! LOL

It’s great this internet thingy! LOL

Yeah, I know you can’t identify (unless you knew the person) and I wasn’t really criticising the photos. More just a general comment on the lack of privacy and morbid curiosity on the Internet. It’s a bit like when you have a car accident and everyone who drives past just stares at you, it’s not fun. That being said, I looked at the photos myself out of curiosity.

From a convenience point of view I drove past this at 5:45 pm, and it didn’t slow me down at all. Just thought I’d mention it if you were thinking about taking a longer route home.

Yeahright, Low resolution makes it hard to identify her even under zoom. She looks upset.

Holy sheet – I was going to post this story but was like meh just another what were the cops doing here at this time story but I was cruising along northbourne at about 4:05 just here and saw 2 cop 4wd’s hoon past me and swerve into the left hand side (north bound) near the drain bridge.. and park.

I had to stop at the pedestrian lights and was trying to observe in teh rear vision but saw a few more cops rock up…

Guess this answers my curiosity.

I’m not sure if thing like this stabbing (whatever this thing is) happen more often but I am amazed how quickly there are photos online. It’s great in some ways how quickly information gets shared around on this interweb thingy. Although not sure how I would feel about it if I was the person in the photos.

Ice and alcohol.

stereo henry5:41 pm 13 Nov 08

just rode past, coppers wouldn’t say anything (obviously)… all i could see was several officers and a detective speaking with one very drunk or smacked-out girl behind the electrical substation. The entire area, including parts of the adjacent park, have been turned into a crime scene.

Ah what delightful sights those monocrete constructions are – when will someone front up and bulldoze/redevelop those “historically significant national estate registered” eyesores?

Whoops, meant to thank Thumper for the tip

ABC news reported a stabbing.

That’ll be fun if they’re still around at peak hour…might stay at work a bit longer tonight.
