I’d like to take some Meditation classes for stress reduction for myself and daughter – we live in Woden.

Can anyone help please with recommendations on type of meditation and location/times/contacts for classes.

Much appreciated

Thanks for all your great suggestions folks – keep them coming and I’ll update with decisions and results – thanks again

I started one at ANU, but it’s by semesters.

There is Soul Yoga in Torrens – http://www.soulyogacanberra.com.au

But dunno if they are currently running any meditation classes….

I have recently enrolled in a free mediatation class that operates all over canberra through Canberra Meditation – canberrameditation.org.au. I am on the southside and am going to the Tuggers Library sessions.

I have enrolled in the 4 afterwork classes, but you can also complete a weekend session – about 4 hours each day as opposed to 1.5 hours after work hours.

If their helpfulness and efficient responses are anything to go by, it should be good. Can’t really go wrong for free and at least you may come out with a good idea as to whether you want to proceed further.

Heavens Above at the Narrabundah shops used to do great guided meditation classes – not sure if they still do or not but worth getting in touch with them – contact details are at

InSynch Institute at Griffith shops is good. They offer yoga and mediation courses, retreats etc

I can’t offer advice on any specific classes Southside but my general advice is that meditation is great and there are so many ways to do it that you should probably try a few to see what suits you best.

There are various forms of “religious” meditation (Hindu, Buddhist) and you are often able to decide whether you’re interested in getting deeply into the religion or just enjoying the meditation, secular (Transcendental) and even physical meditation (yoga, tai chi, chi gong).

So shop around, try a few things, keep an open mind and avoid anyone who wants to charge you a lot of money upfront.
