Speaking of illegal bill posting - who the heck is Audrey Ray?

So I hear the government is going to ban people from putting up posters of gigs etc around town, and even give them big fines if they do.

To be honest, I don’t really care either way, but what really annoys me is that for months now every day when I drive around my part of Tuggers I see these bloody ‘Vote 1 Audrey Ray’ stickers everywhere. I don’t even know who she is, but there must be at least 20 of the things on street signs etc scattered through the east side of the valley.

Are pollies allowed to do this? Why didn’t she take them down – or are they for an upcoming election? If we’re gonna start handing out big fines for this stuff then let’s make a politician the first example!

DMD – the owner of two of our locals received a letter some time ago re bill posters etc. They threatened her with future fines, even though she wasn’t the one organising or approving the posters going up in the street.

It was funny, because the govt was sponsoring some local event at the time which was plastered everywhere.

In relation to the original post, I don’t think you can backdate a fine of this type.

Why are they banning gig posters? I personally think they’re handy for planning weekend nights (even though I don’t get them anymore :().

I don’t know, but am hazarding a guess it’s a business advertisement. (Otherwise they would have all been flogged by the young Libs/Labs by now.)

Don’t be daft – it’s clearly in relation to the last election.

Bill posters is innocent.

Well according to the 1st result in a quick google search the Audrey Ray you are looking for is best known for her questionably illegal bill posting around the Tuggeranong Valley.

And according to Wikipedia she was a candidate for liberals in Brindabella in the last ACT Election.

If you’d like some light reading while you ponder these cold hard facts, here’s the inquiry into amending the bill posting act http://www.legassembly.act.gov.au/committees/index1.asp?committee=113&inquiry=768&category=14 .

If it ails you so (and how a sticker could do that is beyond me) then follow these simple steps

1. Go to the said roundabout when traffic is quiet
2. Stop your vehicle and alight from it
3. Approach the sign
4. Remove the sticker
5. Return to your vehicle and depart

Google ‘Audrey ray election’ as well.

None of the above is rocket surgery

Audrey Ray was am unsuccessful Liberal candidate for Brindabella at the 2008 election. It would be a bit unfair to retrospectively apply the law, especially since they were probably put up without her approval, and she’s just a private citizen now. (And I’m no friend of the Liberals…)

If they can stop students from posting them all over Unis where there are student elections, I’ll be happy.

Audrey Ray, Liberal candidate for Brindabella in the 2008 ACT election. http://www.elections.act.gov.au/elections/2008/candidates_08.html

The obviously didn’t have the desired effect.

I predict it will be the same as other similar laws where pollies exempt themselves eg political parties can make false claims in advertising, are allowed to spam and so forth
